!!!BLACKENED METALPUNK FROM THE USA!!!
Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Tell us a few things about ACID SPITTER (Members, Starting Year etc).
We started Dec of 2023. We’ve all played in various bands together in the past in the DIY punk scene in El Paso. Some incestrial bands include Ninth Circle (TX), Glob (TX) Nyctophagia. Frank: Drums, Danny: Bass, Sam: Axe, Damien: Axe, Marcofago: Vox.
You have recently released your demo ''Acid Spitter''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
Feedback has been positive. This is the most “press” that we’ve gotten. Thanks for taking the risk.
Label or DIY and why?
It’s nice to have a tape release by a label every now and then. I think it worked out because we agree on mostly DIY ethos. I don’t think we truly go into anything with the mindset of making a bag. DIY or die…. Or don’t … idk.
Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
A system of the down/deftones cover band comes by our studio spot sometimes. They practice in the storage close to us. The drummer is 16 years old and dad is the singer. The dad smokes weed with the son. What a cool dad… probably.
Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
We put out a tape recently… so TAPE.
Your music style is Black MetalPunk. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
We all have a broad influence. I think going into the project we had bands like Sacrilege, Celtic Frost, Sacrifice (JP), GISM. Generally old/proto black metal with punk roots. You did an interview with Saguzar from Spain recently. Shit rules.
Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
Probably countless “real-life” job opportunities in the name of touring. I think now we prioritize pretty well.
Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
At the Vatican in front of a wilting pope.
What attributes do you think that a new Black MetalPunk Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Chill out on the chorus. It’s been done…MASTERfully ;)
Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Black MetalPunk Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
Sure why not. We live in a digital world. Though some of the “truer” fans come from collecting tangible forms of music. I feel there’s a shortage of those people…Kids love to mosh and watch videos of people moshing for some reason. YouTube/Bandcamp is probably the best platform.
Do you see any differences between the US Metal Market & the EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
I don’t think we pay too much attention to “markets” in terms of music. Again, coming from DIY punk background, it seems like metal heads in general tend to have more money…? At least that’s how it is in the US…
Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in El Paso, Texas (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
The metal scene in El Paso is pretty deep. You can really go down a dark/twisted rabbit hole if you really look into it…. On that note there’s some great active metal acts we can shout out. Infestation of Evil is killing it. Terrorist is a local legendary bestial thrash band. Morbid hand is some rabid thrash assault shit. There isn’t a shortage of metal bands in our scene right now.
Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Dead Congregation is probably what comes to mind when thinking of current metal from Greece.
In the last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange, and new situations in our everyday lives (covid, lockdown, etc.). Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
Did it affect anyone positively? Pretty sure I can say it was bad for most people. From developing deadly habits, losing our jobs, dying friends and family members….
What are your future plans?
Working on a full length, touring the US. Going to do a short run of Central Texas (Austin, San Antonio) in December. Check it out.
Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
We just released a tape on final return records (Brooklyn New York) big shout to them. Also big shout out to anyone that helped out with the release. Cassidy (Formless horror) for helping us out with art for the release. Fish for recording us. Big shout out to the 915!
