Interview with BREAKDOWN

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about BREAKDOWN (Members, Starting Year etc).
Hello there, BreaKdowN BKN started in 1998, back in Sao Paulo-Brazil, we were pretty active until 2012, then I ended up moving to Ireland, then recently we got based in Germany, we released a full length album called Time To Kill in 2007, a few EPs and now we finally decided to release new material.

You have recently released your EP ''Divide and Konquer''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
The feedback we are getting is super nice for the music we make, I mean it is metal all the way,we love it and it is all our way from the heart, putting this first, the rest is a bonus..of course make me happy to see a lot of people are on the same frequency and enjoy the music, it is all about that actually.

Label or DIY and why?
Whatever works, the music scene is going through changes...we are independent today, If a label ask us to compromise then we stay independent, If we find a good partner label, we are up for it, the label helps out on distribution , shows and media...

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
Once the band was very new, we got invited last minute to school concert in a gymnasium , we ran from work, loaded in and by the second music people were destroying everything and the school personnel lost control , police were called and chaos was installed, we had a hard time to leave the place...but somehow impressed with the energy of the music.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
I like all types, Vinyl is to sit down and appreciate the graphics listening loud, Tape is hard to listen these days but here is a beautiful nostalgy , CD is ok, and easily made, and Digital people get to listen to your band in seconds...I cannot pick one.

Your music style is Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favorite Artists / Bands etc.)
I really don't know if we can call thrash or whatever, I call it Metal, I am really into traditional metal, Sepultura, Kreator, Death, and punk rock, i guess this appear in our music.

Leo - Guitars / Vocals

Tati - Bass

Edu - Drums

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
I am not sure, and we are not that successful commercially ,we are successful in terms of being happy with our music for sure... the scene today is so different and this is the 1 million question!

Recently you have released 2 official music videos "Rise from the Dead" & ''Divide and Konquer''. Tell us about the experience of making video clips.
Ah, these were great, We have directed Rise ourselves, and this was a lot of work, but satisfying, for Divide we worked with Ingo Sporl/ Hard Media, we filmed and let them be creative, but is an interesting process, looking forward to make more videos!

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
Ideal live show, we had a few, when there is a nice atmosphere and you get the right public, magic happens! as far as we are both having a good time it is all ok.

What attributes do you think that a new Thrash Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Good question, we are not really reinventing the wheel here, I believe what we are trying to do is create ur identity based on our style, what we can play, our voice and go from there...at some stage it starts clicking!

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
I like the digital platforms for the agility are excellent for promotion, people listen to the music right away, I have good memories of the zines and magazines when we used to ship/ trade material, anyway I believe CDs and Vinyl are great to sell on concerts and for the more hard core fans.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Not much! I love Suicidal Angels and I am a fan of the guitar player Gus G and his work, but I need to know more, I may listen to some bands and may not be sure if they are from Greece.

In the last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange, and new situations in our everyday lives (covid, lockdown, etc.). Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
Yeah it has impacted everybody, for us was time to re think things and dedicate a bit more to the music, now..the chaos around it and the stupidities we saw are reflected in the music.

What are your future plans?
Make music, no matter what, successful or not, that's all I can say!

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
