Interview with CAMPA

!!!THRASH METAL FROM BERLIN, GERMANY!!!

We had a conversation with Buda (Vocals). Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about CAMPA (Members, Starting Year etc).
Hi.First of all let me thank you for taking your time to interview us. We really appreciate it. Campa is a Berliner Band (Germany). We started to rehearse together at the end of 2022, first as a 4 piece band. Dome joined us after the release of our first single "Fill me up with Poison"and we made our stage debut in October 2023.Everything went very fast. The band is composed of Marian and Dome on the Guitars, Lukas on the Bass, Zaske on the Drums and me (Buda) on the vocals.

You have recently released your EP ''To the Grave''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
We have been receiving very good feedback, online and at our shows. Everyone is very supportive towards us and we really appreciate it.

Label or DIY and why?
DIY. We would love to have a Label that can fit our style and open different doors for us. But we are still a very recent band and I think we need to prove our value first. In any case, we are able to do everything on our own and we have the advantage that we control the whole process. We are extremely motivated to keep creating new music.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
Recording was an extremely nice experience for us.We recorded in LTMF Studios in Berlin, with Tom and he brought that  extra Mile to our Band that we needed. In my case (Vocals) we were really having fun during the recordings and we had a very creative approach during the process. About the shows: they're always fun!We have people dancing, headbanging ,moshing, crowdsurfing. Is a rather intense show I would say.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
All of them for different reasons.I grew up with Tape and CD. Nowadays I buy mostly vinyl:I love the sound and the smell of the "Object" vinyl and the collective aspect of it. But most of the time I'm listening to music in the streaming Channels like Spotify and Bandcamp.
I think there is space for everything because they all offer different experiences.

Your music style is Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Exodus, Sodom, Sepultura, Suicidal Angels, Hellripper, Schizophrenia. Killing, Havok are our main influences as a band but all of our members have different musical backgrounds. Zaske (Drummer ) loves Funk, Dome is hugely influenced by psychedelic Rock and Progressive Metal, I am a Grove,Grind and death Metal affectionate...But we are at the same time all full time thrashers.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
Mostly Time and Money. We need to invest a lot of time to make things happen.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
We are lucky enough to say that we had already very nice shows. I believe the most pleasant  are the ones when no one knows your band but at the end everyone is enjoying and having fun with your music. If you can add on top of it opening to our metal heroes ,then you got our perfect show!

What attributes do you think that a new Thrash Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Identity. We should always aim to sound like ourselves in order to make the difference. Of course all the bands will be compared to bigger bands but I believe that it is extremely important to sound like yourself.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
I believe that Digital Platforms are the best way to let everyone know our work as musicians. I might prefer something specific and avoid some marketing approaches but we believe that we, as a band, should be present online to be available to everyone to listen to our music, wherever you come from. But most important is the quality of the work that you are putting out and the live performance. We always give our best on stage and that's where we really have fun.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Berlin, Germany (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
We are lucky enough to be surrounded by other great bands in the scene and they also influence us in a way or another. We are always listening to Berliner bands like Assi Assassin, Exa, Space Parasites, Space Chaser, Reactory, Indian Nightmare, Annexation, Fadead, Significance and many more. .The Berliner Scene is amazing. There are plenty of places to play and there are always people on the shows.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Of course! One of our main influences is Suicidal Angels! And I love Rotting Christ!

The last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange & new situations in our everyday life (covid, lock-down etc.) Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
Both.I think we kind of forgot how to socialize. But nowadays there are way more people in the shows!I think everyone is more conscient of how amazing it is to have freedom and we see more people in the shows, at least in Berlin.

What are your future plans?
Playing as much as we can, with nice bands and recording our L.P. in 2025.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thank you very much! Listen to our E.P "To the grave" and share with your fellow metalheads! See you in the Pit.
