!!!ANCIENT HEAVY METAL FROM GERMANY!!!
We had a conversation with Eerie Strains (Vocals). Enjoy!
Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Tell us a few things about CAPRICORN (Members, Starting Year etc).
In 2021, during lockdown, Chandrian wrote and recorded all the instruments you can hear on our 2-track demo. I wrote lyrics and recorded demo vocals, but we never intended to release those songs. On a whim, in 2024, we decided to re-record the vocals and self-release the songs on tape.
You have recently released your demo ''...Running Out of Time''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
We didn’t expect much feedback, as we didn’t anticipate selling more than a handful of tapes. Unexpectedly, however, we received many orders from all over the world. Thanks to Cruz Del Sur’s / Gates of Hell’s re-release, we are getting a lot of great and supportive resonance.
Label or DIY and why?
We decided to self-release because we didn’t expect any label to release a 2-track demo. So it came as a surprise that several labels were interested. We are excited that Cruz Del Sur re-released our demo tape in January with a fresh layout.
Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
Nothing funny or weird to tell, yet.
Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
Digital is the most convenient, but of course, it will never replace the atmosphere of vinyl.
Your music style is Heavy Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Our sound is influenced by early Diamond Head, Wytchfynde, Tygers of Pan Tang, Bathory’s Viking era (Blood on Ice, Twilight of the Gods, etc.), and many others. We both have a diverse taste in music, so there probably are influences we aren’t even aware of.
Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
The answer depends on what you consider as success. I’d say that as with anything in life, you should be dedicated, and dedication to something you truly believe in never feels like a sacrifice, at least not in my experience.
Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
We haven’t performed live yet. I’d like our live show to add a lot of atmosphere to our music.
What attributes do you think that a new Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
You should develop a clear vision of what you want to portray as a band and what is true to yourself. Honor your influences, but never copy.
Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Heavy Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
Digital platforms help any band to reach and expand their audience, but there’s a fine line between sharing and over-sharing, consequently losing any aura of mystery. I wouldn’t say there’s an ideal way for a band to promote their work - I think the right way depends on their strengths as musicians. If you are a strong live band, for example, then performing live might be your ideal way of promoting your work.
Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Germany (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
Our underground scene is strong, and the Ruhr area is the place to be regarding festivals and concerts. We have some great newer bands and bands that have been around for many years.
Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
The Hellenic scene includes notable bands such as Kawir, Rotting Christ, Zemial, Agatus, etc., and festivals like Up the Hammers, which we’d like to attend someday. We were pretty excited when we received several orders from Greece!
In the last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange, and new situations in our everyday lives (covid, lockdown, etc.). Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
Considering everything that’s been and still is going on, I sometimes worry about the future. However, I have to say that, for the most part, I enjoyed lockdown life, since I had so much time on my hands and after all, that’s when Capricorn was born.
What are your future plans?
Right now, we are working on new material for an EP.
Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thank you for the opportunity to answer your questions.
