Interview with CEMETERY ROT

!!!OLD SCHOOL DEATH METAL FROM THE USA!!!

We had a conversation with Jorden (Guitars). Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about CEMETERY ROT (Members, Starting Year etc).
We got Gar, Zain, Jake, and Jorden in the band. As far as the year it started dude I don't know. The whole idea behind Cemetery is that death metal never progressed past '93. That's when it was best.

In 2024 you have released your EP ''Euphoric Consumption of Human Flesh''. What was the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
Fans have liked it and as far as the limited press we've received it has been pretty favorable. The fact that there was any press at all was a surprise though.

Label or DIY and why?
Independent label. A label can really get your shit out there in a way that your band might not be able to. Without CDN pushing our shit this interview might not have happened.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
We had played a show with a prominent underground band and thought they were corny and were a little too drunk and vocal about it. More awkward than funny.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
I'm lame, so vinyl. But streaming is much easier.

Your music style is Death Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
I think Morbid Angel is probably the biggest influence for all of us except Jake. He only listens to The Cure.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
If you really want to succeed you have to be willing to be homeless 8 or 9 months out of the year. You can't keep a place if you're broke and on the road all the time. We're not to that point of "success" yet.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
I don't know man. I guess a show with a ton of people, great lineup, and a big fuckin check.

What attributes do you think that a new Death Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Be unhygienic and unpredictable addicts.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Death Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
They do. For me youtube is the best. Youtube has the demos. Channels like Ken's Death Metal Crypt, Greg Biehl, and No Gleaming Light have the true underground shit. You don't even have to promote, if it's good it'll get posted by those dudes.

Do you see any differences between the US Metal Market & the EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
I can't accurately attest to the diffrenences in the scenes in Europe cus I live in California. If I had to guess I'd say Europeans are more willing to dig around in the mud for the real grimy metal and aren't as hung up on the mainstream.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Bakersfield, California (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
There's no real scene here outside of HC music. In terms of like metal there's us and Letum. Bakersfield is a desert through and through.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Black Blood Invocation are fucking sick.

What are your future plans?
Move out of my brothers house. As far as music go's we've got a new album in the works. We just changed the title today but that could change again. Gar can be finicky about shit. We're gonna hit a run of shows in April down the west coast of the US. After that we'll be solely focused on getting the rest of the album written and recorded.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Hail, Son of Ra, Praised of Ra, Whom the Gods applaud.

By Steve the Filthy Dog.
