Interview with DEADLYSINS

!!!BRUTAL THRASH METAL FROM FRANCE!!!

We had a conversation with Laurent K. (Guitars). Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about DEADLYSINS (Members, Starting Year etc).
Great question! DeadlySins is above all a story of friendship. The band’s beginnings go back to 2000, when LB and I (LK) started playing together to progress faster than each of us alone in our bedrooms. Several projects emerged from that period, more heavy metal-oriented, like Rise and CrazyPigs. The thrash revelation came in late 2003 with the arrival of Mat on vocals, followed by Lambert on bass. Over the years, we’ve had several drummers: Adrien, Kevin Paradis, Xavier (Himinbjorg, Hysteria), Alexis (Dux), and finally Jérôme, who perfectly completes our current line-up.

You have recently released your album ''Age of Revelation''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
The album just dropped, and the feedback has been excellent! Our fans had been demanding this new opus for a long time, and they’re loving its raw energy and the blend of old-school and modern vibes. The press is starting to pick it up too, and our collaboration with Adipocere Records is already opening new doors for us.

The cover artwork has a sick atmosphere! Tell us a few things about it.
The artwork was created by Marcelo (Draw or Die), a talented artist who immediately understood our universe. We gave him the themes from the songs, our wild ideas (zombies, monkeys, beer, twisted priests…), and he turned it into this explosive visual. We wanted something apocalyptic, fun, and provocative... Mission accomplished!

And what about the lyrics?
The lyrics explore a mix of themes—some dark, some completely offbeat. We tackle human atrocities (Reckoning of the Unholy), Incan rites (Qhapaq Hucha), thrash and partying (Circle Pit Comedy Club), and even the end of the world (Ashes to Ashes). There’s always a balance between seriousness and humor in what we write.

Your previous album, ''Anticlockwise'' was released in 2014. Ten years have passed since then. Why does it take so long to release your new album?
Yes, we definitely took our time! Between line-up changes, live shows, and the pandemic, we hit a few roadblocks. But more importantly, we wanted to create an album that represents us 100%. DeadlySins is, above all, a live band. We never stopped playing, but we move at our own pace, always with passion.

How did your cooperation with Adipocere Records occur? What do you prefer most, Label or DIY and why?
We owe it to Xavier (our former drummer), who put us in touch with Christian from Adipocere. For thrashers like us, Adipocere is a legendary label. While DIY is great for its freedom, working with a label like Adipocere allows us to reach new heights and a larger audience. We’re really proud of this collaboration.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
There are tons of stories, especially from our live shows! Early on, Mat had a "Smurfette in SM gear" plushie tied to his mic stand doing unspeakable things to another plush… LB is infamous for breaking strings at nearly every gig, and Lambert, with his hair, looks like a human fan on stage. Something always happens during a DeadlySins show!

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
We love everything that lets people listen to thrash. Vinyl has that retro, raw vibe that’s unbeatable. CDs are practical—you’ve got something physical to hold in your hands. Digital is great for reaching a wider audience. But if we had to choose? Vinyl—it’s pure class, and since it’s coming back into fashion, we might just go for it soon!

Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Our influences? The classics: Slayer, Kreator, Testament, Sodom, Megadeth… Old-school thrash is our foundation. But we also pick up bits and pieces from bands like Rammstein, At the Gates, and others. Thrash is our DNA, but we’re not afraid to mix things up.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
To succeed, you need to sacrifice time, money, and sometimes personal moments. We’ve all put a lot into DeadlySins—whether it’s on the road, in the studio, or organizing shows. But when we see what we’ve built together, it’s worth it. And we’re lucky to have strong support from our loved ones.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
The ideal show? A packed venue, a pit on fire, endless circle pits, and a real connection with the crowd. We’ve already lived moments like this, opening for Death Angel or playing at the Sylak Open Air. A special mention goes to our gig with Mumakil—pure adrenaline. But we’re always hungry for more!

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in France (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
The underground scene in France is alive and packed with talented bands across all genres. We’re lucky to have fanzines, webzines like yours, and clubs that keep the scene thriving. In Lyon, Rock’n’Eat is a temple for metal, where local and big bands share the stage. It’s a blessing to have a venue like that nearby. Support your local scene!

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
The Greek scene is solid! Bands like Rotting Christ and Suicidal Angels have left a big mark on thrash and extreme metal. You can feel the passion and energy coming out of Greece. I know less about the underground scene, but I’m curious to discover more!

In the last 4 years, worldwide we have faced many dark, strange, and new situations (covid, lockdown, etc.). Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
The pandemic was a major setback: it delayed the album and stopped concerts. But we made the best of it by composing and preparing for a stronger comeback. Covid 666 is a direct product of that period. We turned a dark situation into creative energy.

What are your future plans?
We want to bring Age of Revelation to life on stage, defend it everywhere we can, and start working on new material. A lot of dates are already in the works, and we’re ready to hit the road. Live shows are where DeadlySins shines the most!

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thank you for the interview and for shining a light on DeadlySins! Thrash fans, keep headbanging, keep moshing, and let’s raise hell together. Stay Thrash, Stay Deadly!
