Interview with DEATHFUCKER

!!!DEATH METAL FROM ITALY!!!

We had a conversation with Insulter. Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about DEATHFUCKER (Members, Starting Year etc).
Deathfucker is an entity spawned by me and J.K in 2015 to satisfy our need of playing devilish Thrash/Death metal in the old school vein. The first rotten result of this morbid union is the “Fuck the Trinity” demo followed by the “Fuck The Trinity” EP (the whole demo was re-recorded adding two more songs); after that, another maniac completed the line up, Pest is a longtime friend of us (I also share other projects with him as Black Ejaculation, Sadomortuary), so was simply natural to join our forces to praise hell! With this three pieces line-up we released the “Devil’s Fist” ep, a split with Morbus Grave and our first full length “Firespawn”, as well as having played several gigs in Italy and abroad. The last creature is “God Devourer”, our second full-length and a deeper step into hell. Few months before the recording session a second guitarist joined the band, boosting everything with his skills in playing fucking great solos! Everything that we did with the band is always the reflection of our way of life and our personal thoughts, especially for me, that I write all the lyrics, is the way to feed my dark side. So, it’s nothing more than blasphemous Metal of Death.

In 2023 you released your album ''God Devourer''. What was the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
Well, we got a good response from the audience, especially during the gigs we did after the release of the album, and above all, we had a very good feedback from old school musicians that play in important bands; that’s a great pleasure for us. To be honest the press haven’t dedicated much space to us, very few interviews and reviews, probably there’re more trendy bands to be focused on.

The cover artwork has a great atmosphere! Tell us a few things about it.
The artist behind the cover art is Mariya Popyk „Crnobogart“, which style and knowledge about our lyirical themes and music is absolutely aligned with us; as for the previous album, she did a superb piece of art! The main theme is an idea of mine, related to some spiritual practices I’m involved in, there’s a special connection between the title track and other two songs of the album...of course Mariya added/modified some elements to improve the final result.

How did your cooperation with BlackSeed Productions occur? What do you prefer, Label or DIY and why?
Label, of course. I don’t like managing stuff like layout, printing, promotion etc… I’m more focused on music, the rest is boring for me. Getting in touch with BlackSeed Prods was quite simple, I wrote to Sergio and he replied excited about the album; he was immediately interested in releasing it and we agreed, B.S. is a great label.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
We haven’t played many gigs in the years, but every time always ended in an alcoholic mess, live shows as also for the recording sessions. Surely one the best gig to remember was the one in Bulgaria at the Running Free Fest, great experience with the bands involved in and a staff of truly dedicated metal maniacs, and wild nights after the show of course.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
Vinyl is the noble format and is surely the preferred one; tape is fascinating too but I normally buy them just for the demos, I don’t like to listen a full length on it. Digital is good just for the promotion, I don’t consider it as a real format.

Your music style is Death/Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.).
One of the main influence is for sure Morbid Angel of Altar of Madness, you can clearly notice that in our last album. Definitively Slayer is a big inspiration for us (but who can’t be inspired by the best band in the world?), Bathory, Possessed, Sadistik Execution, Bulldozer, Hell Hammer/Celtic Frost, Destroyer 666, Vomitor, Infernal Majesty and many others. Anyway, when we write our songs we always try to follow our instinct and to achieve a “personal” sound, because is simply impossible to reach the hightness of the Gods.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
It’s always necessary to sacrifice yourself if you want to reach a result, regardless of what you get, otherwise you’re doing something of little value. I surely sacrificed a lot of time, and sometimes relationships.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
Live rituals are extremely important for us, but is also important to play in the right context, that fits with our style and concept; it happened that we refused gigs because of these reasons. What always matters is to share the stage with bands and an audience of true maniacs, involved in the underground scene.

What attributes do you think that a new Death/Thrash Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Not everyone can do it and I’m not really sure I can give any advice simply just live your music. Listen to the right bands, do not forget the bases, do not learn Death Metal on youtube and don’t be a poser! Always take yourself seriously, Death/Black metal is not a joke!

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Death/Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
The only way for a band to promote its work is to play for passion and to put your own whole energy in the band. Everything else is secondary and only serves to make things easier.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Italy (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
Italian scene is full of great bands but unfortunately is not so easy to be well connected, is a complicated land, also regarding the concerts organization; in the past years, during the early ’00, it was definitely stronger and united, now there are too many wannabe war metal warriors without any kind of background (but this is a general discourse for every country). For sure I have to mention an awesome fest that worth a total support, it is the “A Journey in Darkness” fest and is actually the best one in Italy; as also for the club that hosts it, “Centrale Rock Pub”, during the last years it has been a point of reference for the underground metal scene. Bands that I highly recommend are Funest, Taxidermia, Into Darkness, Thulsa Doom, Morbus Grave, Araphel, Tenebro, Extirpation, Black Oath, Morbid Sacrifice, Valgrind, Vomit Vulva, Necromutilator, Sadomortuary, Continuum of Xul, Hellish God, Putridity, Necroblasphemer, Black Legion, Noia, Blood Offer, Ignobleth and many others that I’m forgetting to mention.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Historically the Hellenic Scene has always been strong and extremely important in the Black/Death underground world, and for some reasons also quite similar to the Italian one…the occult themes mixed with creepy atmosphere typical of the Mediterranean lands…so, leaving alone the classic bands like Necromantia, Varathron, Rotting Christ, Kawir, Zemial etc…others that I’ve always enjoyed are for sure (too many to mention everyone) Macabre Omen, Ravencult, Dead Congregation, Sadistic Noise, Nocturnal Vomit, Naer Mataron, Embrace of Thorns, Cult of Eibon, Necromancy, Goat Synagogue, Αίμα, Atavism, Cult of Eibon, Black Blood Invocation, Necrochakal, Cades Cruenta, Sad, Slaughtered Priest and Imperial Darkness with which we played few years ago. Total support for the Greek brothers!

In the last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange, and new situations in our everyday lives (covid, lockdown, etc.). Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
Personally I haven’t had particular issues due to this situation, and to be honest I partially enjoyed the lockdown period.  I live quite isolated in the countryside, so wasn’t a big problem for me to go outside to take a walk or something else. In addition, the leisure time at my own disposal was like a gift and I used it to focus on myself; during that period I wrote the lyrics for the whole album. Anyway, I fear that humanity will soon have to face again this kind of situation, this is the mirror of everything is wrong in our society, is not so strange, we are the virus.

What are your future plans?
We’ll try to play more live shows and above all, in the beginning of the year we’ll enter again in studio to record new songs for a split; not possible yet to say who is the other band, but be sure that will be a blast in the old school vein.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
We consecrate ourselves in woe.

By Steve the Filthy Dog.
