Interview with DOMINANCE

!!!BLACK  METAL FROM POLAND!!!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

The last time we talked was almost 2 years ago. It was when you had released your demo "Sodomize with Steel". Now you have released your new EP "In Ghoulish Cold". Tell us a few things about this project.
Hails Stavros, looking back I think that was actually the first Dominance interview ever. In the meantime a lot has changed as we released our debut full-length "Slaughter of human offerings in the new age of Pan" in August 2023 via Putrid Cult. This record has gained very positive reception in the underground which increased our gig activity greatly, and the album eventually sold out in eight months. There were also things like an interview in the Polish Metal Hammer, among others. We started writing the "In ghoulish cold" EP immediately after the recording session of the full-length and we had it recorded by the end of the summer 2023. It waited a bit for the mixes as the sound engineer had to mix Czernina’s album „Na pograniczu usidlenia” (where I also did bass and some vocals as a band member) before he got to other things, but I think a 8 or 9 months pause between the releases was only for the good. It’s three tracks in 15 minutes, stylistically pretty much what you could expect after "Slaughter of human offerings in the new age of Pan", although with some hints of things to come probably.

The cover artwork has a great atmosphere! Tell us a few things about it.
Thanks, we kept slowly working on it throughout the sound production stages until we felt there was nothing missing. We wanted it to correspond in some way with the vibes of each track, in other words to represent the vibe of the EP as a whole.

What about the lyrics?
I was in a better place emotionally writing the lyrics for the EP than the ones for the debut album, the result are jolly and hopeful tunes such as "Corpse Rape" and the title track, with only "Sorrow" reflecting on a few less than stellar years of the past.

How did your cooperation with Putrid Cult Records occur?
Morgul of Putrid Cult was the first one who expressed interest when we were sending promos for the debut album, and so it happened that we kept on working with him. Fully recommended.

Impaler

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
A technical malfunction forced us to have the drums for the EP recorded twice, fortunately it turned out for the better as our drummer didn’t sit down and cry but he put even more power into it the second time around which resulted in even better takes. The recording of the vocals was so merrily fueled by weed and fruit IPAs that I let our sound engineer record tambourine in one of the tracks, promised him a mention of this in the booklet, and my brain forgot about this strange unusual fact right afterwards. He reminded me of this at the end of the mixing stage, he turned it down in the mix, so none of us had noticed. And there I was having to tell the rest of the band that I promised him a credit for playing fucking tambourine on our EP, fortunately their reaction could be summarized as "lol ok". As for gig anecdotes, a few days ago our drummer was asked to play on stage inside a plexi cage.

Hellcult

The last 4 years we have faced many dark, strange & new situations with our everyday life (covid, lock-down etc.) worldwide. Did this situation affect you, positively or negatively?
As a band? We started right before covid, so we were forced to wait two fucking years to be able to debut this band live. We spent a lot of that time in the reh room writing material that ended up on the demo and the full-length, and when we finally did our well-planned first gig we sold over 150 tickets, so looking at the positive reception maybe it was for the good. It definitely sucked at the time it was happening, though.

Witchfucker

What shall we expect from DOMINANCE in the near future?
We’re working on new music all the time, also some cool festival gigs this summer, sharing stages with Asagraum, Ragnarok, Massacre among others. Later this year also a few appearances on stages in Germany.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thanks for your interest again, good luck with Filthy Dogs of Metal and till we meet again, so to speak. Cheers!

By Steve the Filthy Dog.
