Interview with DRUST

!!!BLACK METALPUNK FROM INDONESIA!!!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about DRUST (Members, Starting Year etc)
Formed in 2021, Indonesian blackened crust unit Drust comes with a gripping aura, providing a distinct contrast to the rural beauty of the Sindoro Sumbing slopes in the small town of Temanggung located in Central Java, Indonesia. Consisting of Akuariot (Vocals), Deathcrow (Guitar), Bleaked (Guitar), Miffa (Bass) and Afrn (Drums), Drust has since recorded 2 singles and 1 separate release with neo crust unit Negative 17, in its discography.

You have recently released your EP ''Disintegrate''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
The creative process in working on this EP began in 2023, making Anti Cimex, Martyrdöd, Misanthropic as patrons, with sharp lyrics responding to the environment that was destroyed by the state, to the genocide that occurred in various parts of the world, the response of our friends here really liked it and some have memorized the lyrics of our songs.

Label or DIY and why?
Actually it's relevant to our attitude for now, our response to getting signed to a label is actually we don't want a big label but a label that is influential in the underground music scene, and for DIY itself it's actually a very important thing where we can express our creations together and as it is, protests and criticism are very important to us and it's fun.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
We worked on recording our EP independently with makeshift equipment.During the recording process there were many funny stories like we forgot our own material and there were even people who disturbed us when the recording started because we recorded at home, not in a proper music studio.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
We prefer physical releases such as cassettes, CDs over digital formats because physical releases look more unique and rare in our opinion. But for now, digital format releases are also important for the distribution of our works.

Your music style is Black/Crust Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Anti Cimex, Martydod, Misantrophic, Bathory.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
We never thought about the success of our band. All we think about is how we can continue to work and express what we have in mind through our band “DRUST”.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
We've done a lot of shows and we prefer small, crowded venues because we think it brings us closer to the audience than playing on a big stage.

What attributes do you think that a new Black MetalPunk Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
We think all bands are unique,We don't like rules, just be yourself and if you feel comfortable with it,just do it.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Black MetalPunk Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
If we look more broadly, the new faces in the world of digital platforms are very important for the development of underground bands such as metal, hardcore and punk, this is very relevant and proven, the ideal way to promote the work of underground bands we can promote it through spotify, bandcamp and can also sell merch there.

Do you see any differences between the Indonesian Metal Market & the EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
As for market differences, it seems to be the same In Indonesia itself, the interest in underground Metal, Hardcore and Punk music is very high. And we also feel that other countries are the same.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Indonesia (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
For a long time, the underground music culture in Indonesia has been thriving, so a lot of friends from abroad come to Indonesia to tour here. And of course, more and more collective organizers are organizing shows here.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Rotting Christ we think is awesome! We know some great bands from there, We love the history.

The last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange & new situations in our everyday life (covid, lock-down etc.) Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
We were supposed to start “Drust” in 2020 when covid broke out in Indonesia, and we were forced to start it in 2021, which really sucks. It also affected the economy in the country and also some of our work outside of the band was disrupted.

What are your future plans?
Maybe in the future we will do a tour to promote the EP “disintegrate” and after that we will make our first Videoclip.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thanks you so much! Greetings From Indonesia!
