Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
The last time we talked was almost 3 and a half years ago. It was when you released your album "Spectral Creator". You have recently released your new second full length studio album "What Lies Ahead". What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
As in the case of „Spectral Creator”, We did not receive any negative feedback. There were, as usual, a few comments about not playing anything "new", but it did not relate at all to the overall opinion about this album.
The cover artwork of ''What Lies Ahead'' has a sick atmosphere! Tell us a few things about it.
What can I say, is that cover art is really referring to title and lyrics. It’s all about concept of what scares me the most and some of my personal traumas. The whole is quite coherent and extensive at the same time.
And what about the lyrics?
As I said in previous question, all lyrics are what I see from around me in some very gray colours, but just in artistic way.
Which are the differences between "Spectral Creator" & "What Lies Ahead"?
Especially the technical side and familiarization with the genre. I can say that „What Lies Ahead” is better, and more complicated „Spectral”. We took a certain direction in our playing, and the second album is a refinement of what we started.
How did your cooperation with Godz Ov War Productions occur?
Our cooperation went really smoothly. I wrote to Greg on facebook with proposition of release our second album and he agreed it. We had to wait almost a year for the release, but that only helped to release our second album at full speed.
Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
Once we played at a grindcore festival. some guy jumped on stage and started hitting Oskar with a stuffed dick. he got kicked and flew off stage with the help of our friend. after it was over he was very aggressive and had to be calmed down by a security guard and our friend. Another time , after the concert in Kaunas, Lithuania, we slept at "esoteric" people house on acid. Everywhere spiders and snakes in terrariums, hippie posters, and outside the window a gray eastern landscape. Very strange experience.
How do you feel about the rise of AI in music production? Do you see it as a tool that can enhance creativity, or do you think it poses challenges to the authenticity of music creation?
None of the above. I think AI is just a lazy solution and justifying this as some forward way of art. True art, even if it is repetitive, will defend itself.
From your experience in the music industry, what would you tell to a new metal band to avoid or what to do?
Avoid all kinds of competitions for festivals and paid labels. This always leads to nowhere in terms of art competition and if by chance you manage to get it, it leads you to nowhere. What I can advise is that if you are sure about your idea and you want to go for it, do not spare money on the debut. The first moments are important for the band in the general light, so you have to start well.
You have been an active band almost 10 years! Are there any changes in the band as well as in the Polish Metal Scene within all those years?
There has only been one change, our guitarist Mateusz Mencel (Pandemic Outbreak) left us, and Eryk Jakubczyk (Grimoire) took his place. The Polish scene is constantly changing. Recently, you can look out for more promising bands.
What shall we expect from FRIGHTFUL in the near future?
Definitely more technique and speed, and if creativity allows, maybe something that will turn the genre upside down. We are highly motivated and eager for further destruction.
Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Remember to always look at your local underground scene. There will always be a band that shouldn't be there. DEATH METAL PATHOLOGY.
