Interview with INVASION ETERNA

!!!DEATH THRASH METAL FROM CHILE!!!

The interview was answered by Hereje (Heretic - Patricio), founder of the band, with the help of the other members.

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about INVASION ETERNA (Members, Starting Year etc).
Invasión Eterna is a thrash metal band with extreme metal influences, I don't know exactly when it started, but we did our first rehearsals and demos between 2016 and 2017, initially the band started with me (Patricio / Heretic) on guitar and vocals, then Purran joined on bass, later after some failed attempts to have a drummer, Nicolas (Taedium Vitae) came on percussion. Recently Alvaro joined as second guitar giving greater strength in live performances.

You have recently released your EP ''Guerra''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
"Guerra" was originally a single, but we took advantage of recording a few more songs and released it as an EP that serves as a preview of our next LP. We have received varied comments about the songs, some like the raw and aggressive production, as well as the Spanish lyrics with strong criticism of the human being, while others from different countries are not very happy with the sound, whatever, we make music that we like, and we have seen in our live performances that people really enjoy it and that is more than enough to continue with this.

Label or DIY and why?
Label, of course, that opens up a lot of opportunities since one can't do everything by oneself, but to get started in this in our country it is necessary to start by doing things by oneself, especially when it comes to demos or singles. We released our first EP "Ouroboros" through the Chilean label "Three Metal Forces" and we had the opportunity to spread our noise around different places in Chile and the world.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
Yeah, we had just released our first EP "Ouroboros" and we were called to play with Destroyer 666 in the city of Puerto Montt one day before the show, we had to make the decision not to go to our jobs and travel almost a day by bus, but it was an unforgettable experience, we went without thinking twice and we played faster and harder than ever, after that it was just enjoying the night with other bands and getting drunk to death, it was a good show.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
I think that music can be enjoyed in any format, physical or digital, but I prefer CDs. Everyone has their own collection of their favorite bands. We have a collection of Chilean metal CDs. It's easy to play in the car when you're traveling and on practically any music system. It also allows you to properly appreciate the visual art and lyrics. We grew up in the CD generation.

Your music style is Death/Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Although each member has their own influences, this is mainly due to German Metal, bands like Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Desaster, some old school death metal like Unleashed, Asphyx, Pestilence, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel etc. But we can't help but mention the classics Motorhead, Bathory and Slayer. Personally, we are also strongly influenced by Chilean bands like Ripper, Disaster, Dekapited, and the classic Pentagram, and a host of bands that keep the Chilean metal scene at the top.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
Of course, when you don't have money to spare you have to sacrifice a lot of time and resources, but it's all worth it, we invest more and more in the band, and that makes us happy, because the band is what we like, doing what we are passionate about is priceless and any cost for now seems cheap.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
Our ideal show would be promoting our first LP, we don't have that opportunity yet, but I would hope it would be on a tour, in a big city and alongside bands that have inspired us over the years, and of course, whenever there is a brutal mosh pit it is a good show.

What attributes do you think that a new Death/Thrash Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Trying to be unique is a losing battle. We can't reinvent the wheel. What I think works is not respecting the rules when composing, not doing it thinking about what others might like, but thinking about what I like. If it sounds good to me then it's good. That way I avoid copying and pasting rhythms and melodies. The process of creating must be realistic, inspired by emotions, thoughts, beliefs, not by rules or expectations of the public or the genre we play.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Death/Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
Of course, digital platforms are the easiest and simplest way to reach people, but without leaving aside the physical format, since that is the final result of everything we do. I think that the best way to promote our work is in live shows, but since we will not always be playing, publishing our songs on the Internet and social networks works, especially if it is complemented by giving away or selling copies of our physical material.

Do you see any differences between the Chilean Metal Market & the EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
If there is something that we can highlight about Chilean metal, it is the passion of the musicians and fans. The mosh pit is brutal, a pitched battle at every concert and event, even if it's in a bar or a stadium, it doesn't matter, people really enjoy metal and have it in their blood. People continue buying CDs, tapes and vinyl, it's almost like a tradition. Clearly the resources for making music cannot be compared with other countries in Europe or America, there is not as much audiovisual production as video clips or major labels that take music to all parts of the world, the diffusion is more hand-to-hand, more underground. You can listen to many Chilean bands that do not have the best recording or production quality, but they are really good, you can see the effort and realism in each album and show.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Chile (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
Thanks for the question, we really love the Chilean metal scene, the bands are very talented, dedicated and passionate about music. In recent years we have seen the emergence of an impressive number of bands of all genres, especially thrash and death. Chilean metal is characterized by the brutality and darkness of the compositions, I recommend bands like Demoniac, Oponente, Rotten malefice, Antagonyze, Betelgeuse, Duam, Butamacho, Necrobastard, Sepulcrum, Feretro, Aberración, Sick Violence, to name a few. About metal clubs, we live far from the capital so there isn't much of that in the city of Los Angeles, but I would like to mention iconic local places where great metal events are usually held, events like Chacayal Metal Fest, Santa Barbara Open Air, Hellraiser, Repulsion, Eternal Pain, Septic Fest, Lost Angeles, and bar Deja-Vu, among all. Regarding zines, I remember having seen many fanzines circulating around my city, but currently I have seen that that format has been lost, but I want to highlight a YouTube channel called "Metal Tradition" that makes excellent reviews of Chilean bands.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Not too much, but we often listen to bands like Bio-Cancer, Dead Congregation, also Rotting Christ, Suicidal Angels, Necromantia to name a few. About the underground scene,we don't know too much.

The last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange & new situations in our everyday life (covid, lock-down etc.) Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
Covid was a curse, we couldn't rehearse or play live, there were many quarantines that pushed us to the limit, it was something we took very seriously, we needed to protect ourselves and the people we care about from this fucking virus, but we barely had any freedom we continue with the music, there were even some private events where we could play and see other bands, but all in a hidden and secret way. Chile is constantly hit by natural or social disasters, so the accumulated anger against society itself serves as great inspiration for our lyrics. We know that the world in general is fucked, personally I don't have much hope that the world will improve in the short term.

What are your future plans?
Our plan is to release our first LP, so we are starting to create new songs. Once our LP is ready, we hope to tour different cities in Chile, and why not, we would also like to play in other countries.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work!
