Interview with INVICTUS INFERNAL

Tell us a few things about INVICTUS INFERNAL (Members, Starting Year etc).
INVICTUS INFERNAL started as a tribute to Tregenda from Black Witchery after his passing. He was a local legend and friend and I wanted to pay tribute by writing something heavily influenced by him/Black Witchery. It was intended to be a studio only project, but once we began rehearsing we decided to play live and write as a band.
In 2023 you have released your EP ''Invictus Infernal''. What was the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
The demo has sold out of most copies, aside from some at various distros. We have played 2 live shows and both were a success. As for press/audience feedback; we don't make music for any scene or audience and don't pay attention to bloggers or weakling influencers. We make music for the underground and have NO intention to cater to whatever stupid trends are going on.
Label or DIY and why?
We released the demo with GOATOWAREX from China. The partnership was a natural decision as GOATOWAREX has a reputation for releasing high quality extreme metal for a long time now. We are releasing a DIY rehearsal tape at our next show to promote our next demo. I do most aspects of Invictus Infernal myself, aside from artworks. In my opinion, it is important to handle as much of your own project as possible, to ensure your intentions aren't lost in translating when collaborating with a label. However, if the relationship is mutually beneficial and the vision for your release isn't compromised I see no issues in working with a label that is aligned with that vision.
Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
At our 2nd show, the venue had us use wireless microphones. And of course we protested but were told there was no other option. The batteries died halfway through our set (even though we had been told they would not). At least the touring band (Masacre from Colombia) had fresh batteries for their performance...
Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
Underground metal is best on tape. Digital only releases are NOT REAL. If you care about your music, you will find a way to make a physical version.
Your music style is Black/Death Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
We're into Blasphemy, Beherit, and Sarcofago. Other bands influential to our sound are Amebix, Hellhammer, and Holocausto.
Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
NO SACRIFICE!! NO COMPROMISE!!! Do what needs to be done. True success and power comes from DEATH and SATAN.
Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
Our ideal show would be one sharing the stage with other TRUE metal acts. We have only played live twice, but both bills were 100% underground metal acts. No moshing and NO CORE!!
What attributes do you think that a new Black/Death Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
If the music is made with HATE and MALICE it will be felt.
Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Black/Death Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
Digital streaming platforms and their censorship will only continue to drive TRUE metal back to the underground. Streaming should be used for promotion only. If some Zuckerburg takes your music down from their platform; GOOD! Less access for the posers and fakes who are simply tourists to metal.
Do you see any differences between the US Metal Market & the EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
My experience is limited to US metal for the most part, but obviously European metalheads are total maniacs and seem to support metal in a more earnest way. However, places like Los Angeles, El Paso, and Mexico City suggest that NA metalheads can be just as ravenous for metal.
Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Springfield, Missouri (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
In the 90s, there were many bands here like Public Assassin (Tregenda's death metal band), Burning Inside, and Monument of Bones (both also featuring Tregenda and also Richard Christy of Death fame). Currently, there are a few good metal bands like Necrotic Altar, fronted by our drummer. We are in a region dominated by filthy evangelicals who push god on the city so there's some resistance from venues and others sometimes. For instance, we couldn't find a shirt printer in our city that would work with us because we were too extreme. But the city has many devoted to Metal whose support triumphs over those filthy christian mongrels .
Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Between Rotting Christ, Varathron, and Necromantia alone Greece has been responsible for some of the most important records in black metal. I am also a fan of releases from Disharmony, Nocternity, Cult of Eibon, and others. Greek black metal holds a very special place in my heart.
What are your future plans?
We will play a show in Early February in St Louis, MO with Nunslaughter. After that we will be recording our next demo which is already written. Otherwise, we are conspiring in darkness to continue our assault on the Abrahamic filth that plagues this planet. CURE THE ETERNAL SICKNESS!!
