!!!THRASH METAL FROM UKRAINE!!!
Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Tell us a few things about KARABINER (Members, Starting Year etc).
We've started in 2020. Our line-up is George Reshetov (bass guitar/vocals), Leo Palahniuk (guitar/vocals), Ivan Kalytenko (drums/backing vocals).
You have recently released your EP ''Speed Act''. What is the Feedback from your audience as well as from the Press?
Our EP is getting a good feedback on the internet from people that were unfamiliar with us and from our friends. We've also got attention from some media recourses from our country and abroad.
Label or DIY and why?
Now we're unsigned but we plan to find a label in the future. A good label can introduce a band to a bigger audiences and make a good quality physical editions of music.
Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
Our favorite is Tape. This format has a very different sound and aesthetic compared to digital format. Cassettes were the main format to spread metal music in the 80's in the Western countries and in Eastern Bloc. Metal bands in USSR used to gain popularity only by so-called "magnet-albums" because government owned record company "Melodiya" started releasing metal albums only in 1987, and sometimes bands had difficulty in this regard. That makes tape format a very specific and symbolic one for us.
Your music style is Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
"Adem", "Master" (Rus), "Shah", "Aspid", "Kruiz", "Turbo", "Wolf Spider", "Sodom", "Demolition Hammer", "Nuclear Assault", "Holy Moses", "Mekong Delta", "Coroner", "Voivod". Apart from metal music, we take inspiration from jazz-fusion, progressive rock and even 80's synth-pop.
Which things, do you think, a Band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future of your Band?
Each of the Band members should give their best, sacrificing much of their personal life. Hours of practice in playing instruments, in-depth research of the world's musical heritage for developing as a songwriter sake and much more than that is necessary to get the best result in a short time. And as to whether we sacrificed anything - yes, we had to.
Describe your ideal live show as a performance Band. Have you already experienced that?
We have already played several shows in our city. For us, the ideal live show has two parts. The first is a fairly good technical equipment, which is perfectly controlled by a sound engineer, who adjusts the sound so that both the Band and the audience can clearly hear everything. The problem of Ukrainian clubs is not enough good acoustics and a small number of sound engineers who know their business very well. The second part - these are cool people who implement energy exchange with the Band, supporting the performing Band with all their hearts. There has not yet been an ideal show by our standards, but we are on the way to its implementation.
Which attributes, do you think, that a new Thrash Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
The best way for a band to gain identity is to develop a signature concept of bands music, imagery and ideas not trying to copy one's favorite legendary metal band. It's important to imprint your personality on the band and experimenting with different ideas without breaking the genre cannons.
Do you believe that Bandcamp and other Digital Platforms help the new Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a Band to promote its work?
In our opinion, digital platforms today are the very first way to get familiar with Band's catalogue. The labels track the emergence of new bands there. The ideal promotion is a large number of concerts within one's own country and neighboring countries, the presence of physical editions and merch, active communication with fans in social media and real life.
Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Ukraine (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
We have a plenty of good underground metal bands such as: Reabilitator, Warwar, Anmasker, Zombie Attack, Spit Bile, Surgical Invasion, etc. Also we have our mastodons of the genre like Adem, Trashmachine, Infected, Rassvet, Bartholomew's Night. In the past there was a legendary cassette/CD label Moon Records that provided huge amount of albums to Ukrainian auditory. Nowadays we do have a big merch label called Archivist Records that sells licensed merch even abroad. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and other reasons, a lot of good clubs like Barvy and Bingo had been closed.
Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Yes, we've heard bands like "Suicidal Angels", "Flames", "Concrete Force" etc.
What are your future plans?
Our plans for the future, first of all - creating new songs for a full-length album and after it's recording - performances in the cities of Ukraine and abroad, between which we will accumulate new material.
Thank you very much for your time & Keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thanks for the interview! Good luck to you and stay metal!
