Interview with KEEPTOR

Tell us a few things about KEEPTOR (Members, Starting Year etc).
Formed in 2012, Keeptor has been standing out in the national underground scene, finding no limits to mix different influences and thus presenting a technical sound without leaving aside the aggressiveness and speed of an oldschool metal the way it has to be done. Currently formed by Pedro Parisi (guitar and backing vocals), Brandon Silva (guitar and backing vocals), Wesley “Weslayer” (bass), Lucas Aimola (vocals) and Guilherme “Fruto” (drums). The band has already had some member changes, but had its formation consolidated in 2020.

Conte-nos algumas coisas sobre o KEEPTOR (membros, ano inicial, etc.).
Formada em 2012, a Keeptor vem se destacando no cenário underground nacional, não encontrando limites para misturar diversas influências e assim apresentar um som técnico sem deixar de lado a agressividade e rapidez de um metal oldschool do jeito que tem que ser feito. Atualmente formada por Pedro Parisi (guitarra e backing vocal), Brandon Silva (guitarra e backing vocal), Wesley “Weslayer” (baixo), Lucas Aímola (vocais) e Guilherme “Fruto” (bateria). A banda já teve algumas alterações de membros, mas teve sua formação consolidada em 2020.
You have recently released your EP ''Robots Of Death''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
Robots of Death had an excellent public acceptance both nationally and internationally. It was very well mentioned in the July 2022 edition of The Mighty Decibel channel, in Metal Forces Magazine and we will also have the privilege of release the EP on cassette tape through the Chinese label Thanatology very soon. Anyway, the release of the EP gave us a lot of visibility, which provided us with wonderful shows alongside fantastic bands. We are very grateful for all of this.

Robots of Death teve uma excelente aceitação do público tanto nacional quanto internacional. Ele foi muito bem mencionado na edição de julho de 2022 do canal The Mighty Decibel, na Metal Forces Magazine e também teremos o privilégio de lançar o EP em fita cassete através do selo chinês Thanatology muito em breve. Enfim, o lançamento do EP nos deu muita visibilidade, que nos proporcionou shows maravilhosos ao lado de bandas fantásticas. Somos muito gratos a tudo isso. Label or DIY and why?
We are in favor of doing everything on our own, but unfortunately this ends up not being feasible. Releases involve significant costs with rehearsals, recordings, media pressing and even the cost of arts for the artists involved, which is why the release through labels ends up becoming a good option.

Lançamentos por selos ou por conta própria e por quê?
Somos favoráveis a fazer tudo por conta própria, mas infelizmente isso acaba não sendo viável. Os lançamentos envolvem custos significativos com ensaios, gravações, prensagem das mídias e até mesmo o custeio das artes para os artistas envolvidos, por isso o lançamento mediante selos acaba se tornando uma boa opção.
Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
Among the options mentioned, vinyl pleases us the most for its better sound quality and nostalgia.

Dentre as opções mencionadas, o vinil nos agrada mais sem dúvidas por sua melhor qualidade sonora e saudosismo.
Your music style is Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Keeptor's proposal has always been to make oldschool thrash metal with melodic touches. Our influences range from classic Brazilian bands like Sepultura, MX, Ratos de Porão, Lobotomy, Viper, Acid Storm, Magister, as well as established bands from the North American scene like Death, Forbidden, Exodus, DRI, Testament, Metallica and Atheist. It would be unfair not to also mention European bands that were part of our musical education like Necrophagist, Poltergeist, Artillery, Angel Dust among others.

Seu estilo musical é thrash metal. Quais são suas principais influências (artistas/bandas favoritos etc.)
A proposta do Keeptor sempre foi fazer thrash metal oldschool com toques melódicos. Nossas influências vão desde bandas brasileiras clássicas como Sepultura, MX, Ratos de Porão, Lobotomia, Viper, Acid Storm, Magister, assim como bandas consagradas da cena norte-americana como Death, Forbidden, Exodus, DRI, Testament, Metallica e Atheist. Seria injusto não mencionar também bandas européias que fizeram parte danossa educação musical como Necrophagist, Poltergeist, Artillery, Angel Dust entre outras.
Which things do you think a Band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your Band?
Having a heavy metal band is wonderful but it requires a lot of dedication and many times this sacrifice is not rewarding. We always give up commitments and personal things to practice, compose, record, play shows and also to have money to invest in the band. It's the little moments of success that make it all worth it.

Quais coisas você acha que uma banda deve sacrificar para ter sucesso? Você já sacrificou alguma coisa em sua vida por um futuro melhor para sua banda?
Ter uma banda de heavy metal é maravilhoso mas requer muita dedicação e muitas vezes esse sacrifício não é compensador. Sempre abrimos mão de compromissos e coisas pessoais para praticar, compor, gravar, fazer shows e também para ter dinheiro para investir na banda. São os pequenos momentos de sucesso que fazem tudo valer a pena.
Describe your ideal live show as a performance Band. Have you already experienced that?
For us, the ideal show is one where the available equipment is adequate, there is a large audience, the band's harmony and performance are impeccable and there is good merchandising sales. We had the privilege of experiencing this at a show in our city (São Bernardo do Campo) held by the City Hall itself, alongside great bands, but especially with Dorsal Atlântica.

Descreva seu show ao vivo ideal como uma banda de performance. Você já experimentou isso?
Para nós o show ideal é aquele onde a aparelhagem do local é adequada, há um grande público, a sintonia da banda e performance são impecáveis e há uma boa venda de merchandising. Tivemos o privilégio de vivenciar isso num show em nossa cidade (São Bernardo do Campo) realizado pela própria prefeitura, ao lado de grandes bandas, mas em especial do Dorsal Atlântica.
Which attributes, do you think, that a new Thrash Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
We believe that good bands are those that sound and convey their energy and message in the way they want.

Quais atributos vocês acham que uma nova banda de thrash metal deve ter para ganhar identidade e ser única?
Acreditamos que boas bandas são aquelas que soam e transmitem sua energia e mensagem da maneira que bem entenderem.
Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a Band to promote its work?
Nostalgia aside, we have a predilection for physical media, but currently the reach that the digital format provides to smaller bands is undeniable. We wouldn't have had half of what we've achieved so far without it. Nowadays, we believe that any type of media is valid for propagating heavy metal.

Você acredita que as plataformas digitais ajudam as novas bandas de thrash metal? Qual é, na sua opinião, a forma ideal de uma banda divulgar o seu trabalho?
Saudosismos à parte, temos predileção por mídias físicas, mas atualmente é inegável o alcance que o formato digital proporciona às bandas menores. Nós não teríamos tido metade do que conquistamos até agora sem ele. Nos dias de hoje, acreditamos que qualquer tipo de mídia seja válida para propagação do heavy metal.
Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Brazil (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
Brazil has been going through a difficult time politically and economically speaking and all this oppression has given strength for many good bands to emerge. We are living in a less critical moment of the COVID-19 pandemic, so specialized media have fulfilled their role, there are many events taking place in different parts of the country and places are giving up their spaces for authorial bands to perform. We had the opportunity to meet fantastic bands like Trioxine, Damnation City, Thrashterror, Atombomb, Cerberus Attack, Sombrio, Sentencer, Podridão, Finis Hominis, Carniça and Cranial Crusher. We would bet that the coming years will be good for Brazilian metal.

Conte-nos um pouco sobre a nova cena do metal underground no Brasil (bandas, fanzines, webzines, clubes de metal etc.)
O Brasil tem vivido uma época difícil politicamente e economicamente falando e toda essa opressão tem dado força para que muitas bandas boas surjam. Estamos vivendo um momento menos crítico da pandemia de COVID-19, então mídias especializadas têm cumprido seu papel, há muitos eventos acontecendo em diversas partes do país e locais estão cedendo seus espaços para bandas autorais se apresentarem. Tivemos oportunidade de conhecer bandas fantásticas como Trioxine, Damnation City, Thrashterror, Atombomb, Cerberus Attack, Sombrio, Sentencer, Podridão, Finis Hominis, Carniça e Cranial Crusher. Apostaríamos que os próximos anos serão bons para o metal brasileiro.
Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
We will be honest and say that unfortunately we know very few Greek bands, as Suicidal Angels, Bio-Cancer and The Crucifier (which had a split released with the Brazilian band Bywar). We would be honored to meet bands and friends from Greece, which we believe is a country that has a lot to offer the heavy metal world.

Você conhece alguma coisa sobre a cena helênica do metal?
Seremos sinceros e dizer que infelizmente conhecemos pouquíssimas bandas gregas como Suicidal Angels, Bio-Cancer e The Crucifier (que teve um split lançado com a banda brasileira Bywar). Ficaríamos honrados em conhecer bandas e amigos da Grécia, que acreditamos ser um país que tem muito a oferecer ao heavy metal mundial.
What are your future plans?
At the moment our priority is to finish the compositions to record our first album. Also, keep doing the same: playing live, making new friends, meeting new bands, leaving our legacy with songs and records for posterity. In other words: to keep metal alive!

No momento nossa prioridade é terminar as composições para gravar nosso primeiro disco. Além disso, continuar fazendo o mesmo: continuar tocando ao vivo, fazendo novos amigos, conhecendo bandas novas, continuar deixando nosso legado com músicas e discos para a posterioridade. Ou seja: manter o metal vivo!

We appreciate the opportunity to publicize our work and we want to take the opportunity to say that the work of FILTHY DOGS OF METAL is fundamental to promote new bands from all over the world. It is very gratifying for us to know that our songs have reached Greece, which is very far from Brazil.
