Interview with MORBUS GRAVE

!!!TWISTED DEATH METAL FROM ITALY!!!

We had a conversation with Erman (Vocals). Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about MORBUS GRAVE (Members, Starting Year etc).
First of all thank you for the support! Well the band was spawned by A.th (Black Oath) and me (Erman). with the goal to perform ancient death metal. Due to lack of time A. th left the band and let me to continue the path by myself. In early 2015, I found the right replacement in Maso on guitars/bass and Pide guts on drums. Finally "Throne of Disgust " demo was released by Unholy Domain rec. on tape. Later in the same year, Eros and Eddy join the band to complete the line-up. After some years of silence , and some line-up changes , the grave has been opened again. In 2018 with Johan on guitar and Danny on drums , the band started to write new material that will see the light in late January/Febraury 2019 as "Awakening of the dead" demo released via Unholy Domain Recs. Recorded , Mixed and Mastered by Maso (Macabro Bunker Recordings) .In July Redefining Darkness Rec released "Abomination" demo , in september Johan left the band, and we found in Magiko, his substitute . In Febraury 2020 , a split with Deathfucker (It) were out on headsplit records (re-released again in summer’2020 by Necrolatry records with different cover artwork) . During 2021 , new stuff was composed and take part to a self financed promo limited to 50 copies on tape done by the band itself like a trailblazer for the full-length album “Lurking into Absurdity”. In 2022 Maso left the band and Eros rejoined the band again on bass duties. We start to write new material that followed “Feasting the MNacabre” as well.

You have recently released your album ''Feasting the Macabre''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
We worked very hard for the new album but  honestly we didn't expect this strong support from the press and from the audience.

Label or DIY and why?
We had a deal proposal from Memento Mori . We had it already when “Lurking Into Absuridity” was released but we signed already for Chaos Records so when we had new material we accepted immediately Raul’s proposal.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
Well, we have recorded all Morbus Grave stuff during the years, except “Throne Of Disgust” ,at Macabro Bunker Recordings were we spent a lot of time drinking and listening music …a lot alcoholic and devastating nights ahahaha.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
We don’t like at all Digital Format , we are still maniacs about Vinyl/Cd and tape and for sure we've always tried to make music not to have a purpose but just for ourselves, and it's killer to see your stuff published on physical formats.

Majiko

Your music style is Death Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Yes our main influences are Slayer, Obituary, Celtic Frost, Possessed, Crimson Relic, Hellhammer , Death just to mention a few and old school thrash (Especially European), like Kreator, Sodom,Protector…

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
Uhm ….I don’t think so..anyway we haven't sacrificed anything of our lives, if that's what you're referring to. Since music is our passion, the steps we got with the band all together have always been natural.

Eddy

Eros

Danny

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
What can I say ..we don't have an ideal live show in mind or anything else...at least we have always tried to maintain our identity, being a band strongly linked to the underground, the mere fact of being able to play in front of people who appreciate our music It's the most beautiful thing ever.

What attributes do you think that a new Death Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
First of all , live for metal and die for metal , is an essential component. This might be obvious but it is certainly the fundamental point of everything.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Death Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
Nowadays digital platforms certainly helps new bands to make themselves known and at the same time to spread their music, even if we are very attached to the old school. When bands had to try to make themselves known through fanzines or by sending their material to various labels. We are now talking about prehistory eheheheh. Everything is changed … we ourselves had to evolve, in the sense of becoming familiar with the various social networks or platforms and that  wasn't easy at all..

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Italy (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
We near in Milan, and a lot of venues and clubs closed . Milan was very well known in the’90 .. a lot of bands like Morbis Angel, Dismember , Entombed, Nocturnus …toured Italy and especially Milan . Some little clubs survived like Black Inside ( located in lonate Ceppino very close to Milan) or we can mention Slaughter Club. Italian underground scene is very strong, there are a lot of band that deserve attention Like : The Rite, Blood Offer, Funest, Extirpation, Araphael, Necromutilator, Woundead and much more …The same for the zines , we strongly recommend Baphomet’s Throne.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Hellyeargggh…for sure: Rotting Christ, Varathron, Necromantia, Obsecration, Kawir, Zemial , Thou art lord ..

The last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange & new situations in our everyday life (covid, lock-down etc.) Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
The pandemic in general has affected everyone's life. For the period of closure it was quite harmful, the inability to go out and not see friends was highly negative.  in the face of this, however, we also managed to complete the writing of our first full-length album "Lurking Into Absurdity" in that period.

What are your future plans?
At the moment we are writing new material…and we have some live shows ..one gig on the 15th February supporting Anatomia from Japan and Ossuary (US)  .. and one more in Italy in November …hellyes we will continue to write other tunes and then we will see what happens.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thanks to you for supportino Morbus Grave. Keep the underground alive!!!  ….In Darkness….
