Interview with MORTUARY NIGHTMARE

!!!THRASH METAL FROM GERMANY!!!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about MORTUARY NIGHTMARE (Members, Starting Year etc).
The band was formed by Morris and Marc Vincent in the late summer of 2022. Morris' father had a rehearsal room for his band, so we early had good equipment. Our first guitarist was the girlfriend of Marc Vincent, but she left a year later. Then we (Marc Vincent and Morris) drew a flyer that said: "METAL GUITARIST WANTED!", which Paulina saw at the music school. Soon she hit us up, we rehearsed together, it was fun, and so she became our guitarist. At that time, our skills on the instruments weren't really good, but there was a local competition for young musicians, and we thought: Why not? So we rehearsed a lot because we only had 4 weeks till the gig. We managed to become good enough on our individual instruments, but also as a band together. Then the day of the competition arrived. We set up our equipment and everything went well, but then Morris' father, who helped us with all of the equipment, fell down the stairs at the venue. His leg muscle got torn apart, and he had to go to the hospital. With that fatal accident, we had something to win this competition for. We played our first self-written song "Demons" and won the second place, which was selected by a jury, and the audience award, which was chosen by the audience. Morris' father got well again and is now healthy. With that win in our pockets, we kept on going and recorded the first demo "Demons" and played our first real gig after the German metal band Macbeth. The people liked it, and that motivated us to keep going, writing new songs, and playing more gigs in the future!

You have recently released your demo ''Demons''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
...Well, they loved the life version when we played the Macbeth gig. The sound of our demo isn't the best, and we'll definitely work on it in the future.

Label or DIY and why?
Pretty hard to say.. Our Demo is DIY, so that's all we know. A label would definitely be a dream of ours tho.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
We once rehearsed and recorded our takes with a phone. On one of the Audios you can hear a very weird noise which sounds like a voice to us. Later we thought we saw weird shadows in the rehearsal room. We came to the conclusion that there must be a ghost, or a DEMON in our rehearsal room.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
We prefer tapes and Vinyls because that's the most fun way to listen to music. CDs are good as well. Digital format is the most useful because you can listen to it anytime you want.

Your music style is Black/Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Our biggest inspirations are definitely bands like Sodom, Toxic Holocaust or Hellripper.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
Were all still in school, one of us is currently writing final exams and graduating...so we definitely sacrifice most of our free time making music instead of studying.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
Our ideal of a live show would definitely be filled with energy, not only from us but from the crowd too! At the last show, People knew our lyrics, and jumped on stage, that was sick. We wanna see crowdsurfing, Circle Pits and some fucking Maniacs!

What attributes do you think that a new Black/Thrash Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
It's almost always the unique vocals, the interesting album art, or the sick riffs that attract People. Bands stand out by thematizing about Different things, not only Satan or Gore.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Black/Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
Lots of sick bands are using social media nowadays. If it wasn't for our Instagram, People would never know when new stuff is released etc.. It helps keeping the Maniacs updated.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Germany (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
It's definitely evident that metal is still alive in Germany. We know many people from different regions all over Germany. We have metalhead friends from the legendary Ruhrgebiet and further eastern Germany, and we meet up with friends from Chemnitz and Dresden. Other bands that we're friends with are Justify, Lead Injector,... We, being the kids that listen to the old stuff like all of the old metalheads, get a lot of support from old veterans. There was a club in our hometown called "the Voodoo Club" where we know the owner and they always wanted us to play there, which we did. We played our first real gig there, and it was awesome. All in all, you can really say that metal is still very much alive and celebrated in all of Germany.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
WTF IS THE HELLENIC METAL SCENE?!"?!?!?!?!?!?!

The last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange & new situations in our everyday life (covid, lock-down etc.) Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
It affected us positively as well as negatively. Covid was a really hard time, but I think it really bonded the metal music to some of us because it helped us through that time.

What are your future plans?
Releasing an Album and improving the quality of the songs, make them more interesting and becoming better as a band. Also very important to us is playing gigs and having fun on stage. The first merch is also a dream that we hope comes trve.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thanks for this opportunity man, Headbangers unite!
