Interview with NECROKNIGHT

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Thanks for having us!

Tell us a few things about NECROKNIGHT (Members, Starting Year etc).
Mirco: We are a 5-piece band from Mόnsterland in Germany. The three old friends Rene, Jens and Mirco founded the band in 2021. After an addition on guitar (Kilian) and drums (Simon), we are not just a full band but also a friendly and strong team.

You have recently released your album ''The Skullthrone''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
Mirco: Yes, the album was released on December 1st, 2024. We had been playing songs from it for a while before the album was released and the audience was always there looking forward to when these can finally be heard at home. We also get very good feedback from the press. So far our album has been not reviewed below 7.5/10 points.
:)

Label or DIY and why?
Mirco: DIY until you die! ;) Everything can be designed more individually. Be it the logo design, record cover, color of our record etc. We don't rule out a label in principle, but at the moment we're doing pretty well with being independent. You are also closer/more direct to people. It seems more honest.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
Mirco: Oh man... it's almost a little ritual that I unplug my microphone at least once per gig because of our stage performance is very wild and dynamic. During the recording of 'The Skullthrone', Jens and I tried out what my voice could do. We thought that clean vocals could go well with a riffing. After singing for 2 seconds, we both looked at each other skeptically and started laughing And with that the topic of 'clean vocals' was history.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
Mirco: Definitely vinyl! In my opinion it's the most beautiful medium to listen to music. It starts with the process of taking out a record and look at them, then hang up. And the first crack of the record is still magical. You also have a completely different approach to listening. You don't have the opportunity to skip through songs so quickly, which honors the music much more. Listening to a record is always a process that takes time. We should take more time for good music.

Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Mirco: Oh, that's a big question. I'll just name a few bands.. :) Morgul Blade, Eternal Champion, Dφdsrit, Nightfyre, Astral Spectre, High Warden, Manilla Road. And to name a few big bands; Blind Guardian, Obituary, Manowar, Judas Priest, Death.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
Mirco: So far we haven't had to sacrifice anything to run our band the way we do right now. Rather the opposite is the case. For all of us it feels more like an enrichment.  As if we had been waiting to finally be on stage together.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
Mirco: In any case, the ideal live show is when the audience is excited and having fun. It's just always great to notice when the crowd goes along and has fun. We have already played 2 shows that I would say are milestones in our band's history. :) On the one hand it was the 'from Albion to Attica' and on the other hand we were able to support our friends from Nightfyre on their 10th anniversary. Both shows that give me goosebumps just thinking about them.

What attributes do you think that a new Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Mirco: Do what you feel like doing. Do it with passion. Listen to a lot of music that you like and be attentive. Go to concerts. Not just big concerts, keep an eye on the underground. Exchange ideas with other musicians. Get inspiration from other bands, but don't copy.  And the main thing is that you all have fun with it. The rest comes by itself...

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Heavy Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
Mirco: Certainly. It is a quick and easily accessible way to consume music. I still remember my youth when I only listened to CDs. Maybe a burned CD from a friend. On the one hand, I think I used to like something like Bandcamp etc., but on the other hand I think that CDs have influenced me to appreciate the music more. Bandcamp is a nice site that is very close to the artist.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Germany (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
Mirco: The underground scene is incredibly strong and large. There are so many hungry and good bands in so many genres. It's always worth going to 'small' concerts.  It's exciting to see how supportive and cool the scene is. Almost family-like.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Mirco: The only thing i know about is from a friend who was on vacation in Athens. It seems like there is a big metal scene going on. Maybe we have the opportunity to play there.. Would be great!

What are your future plans?
Mirco: We are looking forward to play more shows this year so people can catch that unique 'Necroknight feeling'. And of course, promote our album!

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Mirco: Thanks and cheers to you, Folks! Listen to the Skullthrone, Bang your head until your dead and Stay NECRO!
