Interview with NOCTURNAL TERROR

!!!BLACK SPEED METAL FROM BRAZIL!!!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about NOCTURNAL TERROR (Members, Starting Year etc).
Greetings Filthy Dogs Of Metal, I am Evokator of Storms and I created Nocturnal Terror in 2022 after the end of my old band "Acid Void". I started Nocturnal Terror playing Black/Death Metal with influences from 80s Speed Metal, during these years I released some materials that focused on different sounds within extreme metal, like the Ep "Blasphemous Crushing of Angels", in which I was very inspired by War Metal, nowadays I want to take Nocturnal Terror to a more early side of Black Metal, when the genre was a mix of Satanic Themes, Speed and Riffs inspired by Venom.

You have recently released your EP ''Tormentor''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
The general reception from the public with the Ep was very good, I was very satisfied with the result. Initially "Tormentor" would be the band's second Full album, but I had some problems during the recordings and I couldn't finish all the tracks that were planned to be released, but people seem to have liked this more Speed Metal side of the band.

Label or DIY and why?
I believe that when you don't have a commitment to a Label, you have a certain freedom to do whatever you want, without worrying if it will sound too dissonant with what the record company wants, doing it yourself has its good side, you know...but I believe that in order to increase your audience, have adequate publicity, the Label can give you a good boost, I'm currently looking for a good label so that I can have some physical distribution of my materials.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
The time when former Bassist Von Equimanthorn and I were recording the first Album "Bestial Messiah" was the time when the most funny things happened. Von and I met at my house, we wrote some riffs, and when it came time to record we were like "ok I think before we record we should just smoke a joint or two, just to play better" and then we were pretty much talking shit about everything, laughing, and sometimes we would get so high that we would just stop recording and start writing ridiculous reggae songs or something, it was a good time.

How difficult (or easy) is it for a musician to compose all the tracks by himself and what difficulties did you face during the recording of your EP?
Being the only member of the band and being responsible for all the compositions, mixing, promotion and everything else has its good side. I just record what I think is good, with my own musical influences and I don't have many problems, but the bad part is that it's a bit of a heavy job being the sole composer of a band in the long term, it's a bit exhausting sometimes because I've had to learn a lot of mixing techniques over the years, sometimes my creative ideas just go away, and Since it's just me in the band, that's it, but playing together with other people is really cool, I intend to bring some more people close to me in the future to play in Nocturnal Terror.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
I've always had a lot of CDs from bands that I like, because it's the most accessible form for me, but I also really like vinyl, the sound that vinyl produces is much better than any digital media, even though nowadays I don't be more connected to physical media, I really appreciate it.

Your music style is Black/Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
I have many influences in Metal, but I would say that the most important bands for me would be Venom, Hellhammer, Sodom and Bathory, as much as I listen to a lot of things, these 4 bands have never left my ears, they are definitely my biggest influences since I started playing metal in 2017.But on Ep "Tormentor" I was obsessed with bands like Deathhammer, Hellsword, Terrörhammer. These guys really are the real Black Thrash Metal.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
I didn't go through this situation much, I think that what I had to sacrifice most in general to be able to release materials for Nocturnal Terror with a good frequency was just my time, but I really like making my songs, so for me it wouldn't be a sacrifice.

Tell us 10 Metal releases that have "entered" your blood.
1 - Black Metal - Venom
2 - Obssessed by Cruelty - Sodom
3 - Power from Hell - Onslaught
4 - The Return of Darkness and Evil - Bathory
5 - In the Name of Hell - Terrörhammer
6 - Satanic Rites - Hellhammer
7 - Fallen Angel of Doom - Blasphemy
8 - Heavy Metal Maniac - Exciter
9 - Onward to the Pits - Deathhammer
10 - Show no Mercy - Slayer

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
In fact, I haven't done a live performance with Nocturnal Terror yet, there were a few times when I was called to do shows in another city, but playing live was never my biggest interest, I really like composing my songs and I would like to perform them live, but at the same time, I don't have that much desire to play live, in fact while I was making the songs for Nocturnal Terror in 2022/2023, I often played live with a local punk band called "Cabeça de Abóbora" of which I was the drummer.

What attributes do you think that a new Black/Thrash Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Nowadays it's very difficult to be totally original, honestly, a lot of things have already been created and performed in every possible way, my view on originality in a Black Thrash Metal band is some element that differentiates it from another, sometimes a vocal, a way of composing riffs, honestly I don't think my songs are very original, it's more of a frankenstein of everything I'm listening to at the moment and my main influences, you know hahaha.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Black/Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
As much as social networks help musicians to promote their compositions, there are a lot of retards making shitty short videos about their shitty band, this keeps me away from the ridiculous bands on these social networks that use short videos, but if you use them in the right way and without sounding like an idiot, platforms like bandcamp have really helped a lot of bands grow, there are a lot of really good bands that I only know about thanks to bandcamp and youtube.

Do you see any differences between the Brazilian Metal Market & the EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
Brazil has a lot of people who really support the underground scene, just like the United States, I believe there isn't that much of a difference, however when it comes to record labels I don't have much credibility to say anything.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Brazil (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
There are many webzines, pages and YouTube channels that promote new albums, they do a great job, and currently there are many very good Extreme Metal bands in Brazil, but thanks to these people willing to promote new music, I managed to form a good audience who likes my songs.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Honestly, I don't know that much about the Hellenic metal scene, just a few bands, but I'll try to find out more about this scene.

In the last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange, and new situations in our everyday lives (covid, lockdown, etc.). Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
Both, it was a time where practically everyone started to go insane, when there was all this covid shit, I practically spent all day composing and playing Golden Axe from genesis, those were complicated times, but in the end it was good for us to see that the Humanity is not as untouchable as we think. A little shit like a corona virus can kill us, and people were aware of that.

What are your future plans?
I intend to release Nocturnal Terror's second full album next year, continuing with the Black Thrash sound again, a lot of people ask me when I'm going to release the band's materials on physical media, so in the next few months I'll be looking for a record company that is interested in my songs .

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thank you very much Filthy Dogs Of Metal for the opportunity to do this interview, I honestly enjoy answering questions related to the band's development and I'm pleased that you asked me, thank you to Filthy Dogs Of Metal readers too!!!
