Interview with POWERLOAD

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about POWERLÖAD (Members, Starting Year etc).
We are Brett Michaels on guitar, Shel Shock on bass & vo-kills, Hellhammered on drums & vo-kills. We started at the dawn of the new Age of Aquarius. We are here to rock & make heavy music dangerous & bad ass again. Fuck the poser wimps & “safe metal”.

You have recently released your demo ''Demo '24''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
Aside from hitting number #666 on the Billboard charts for 666 weeks? Response has been fantastic as expected. All the wimpy bands shit themselves & are waiting for their great aunt to clean the stains out of their drawers. We actually can’t keep up with the fan mail, we had to borrow Santas overflow box for the Summer but the guy is G & said it was no issue. That many years on the naughty list we’re on a first name basis with ‘ol Chris.

Label or DIY and why?
I mean… you wanna sign us? Be our guest, I’d love to kick back & drink some cocktails instead of pressing tapes.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
When we were recording the demo Brett Michaels had to drop a rock of love in the toilet so Shel Shock picked up the guitar & did the end lead of “Stakes Are High (So Am I)”. We call it the “shit lick”.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
We’re all vinyl guys. We like tapes too cuz they’re cheap & nasty just like our fanbase. We appreciate all formats, whatever gets our LÖAD to your ears.

Your music style is Heavy Metal with Punk elements. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Beer, tequila shots, really good weed that fucks up your face. AC/DC is cool too.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
Yeah I mean since we hit the big time after Lars Ulrich said we were the greatest band alive, we have had to turn down so many groupies & booty calls because we have to practice & drink beer. It’s fuckin’ tough out there.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
No because the ideal live show would be us & DMX coming on stage & we all play “Bring Your Whole Crew” heavy as fuck & DMX spits on all of us but the guy fucking went & died so RIP that dream.

What attributes do you think that a new Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Not copy the same shit over & over again. Not be wimps. Sing songs about the streets & cool/real things. Life isn’t the fucking Hobbit. Kim Kardasian is.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Heavy Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
The ideal way to promote your work is play your fucking instrument & rock. Computer or no computer. Fuck man I can’t even read.

Do you see any differences between the Canadian Metal Market & the EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
Yeah about 500-1000 kilometers between playable cities here in Canada & about 6km between playable cities there. Canada is ASS to tour but it’s beautiful (except Thunder Bay & Winnipeg) & we have some sick bands here.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Canada (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
All that matters is Villain from Toronto, Power Of Evil from Edmonton, Immortal Force in Calgary, Tuff Duzt in Vancouver. Starlite room here in Edmonton has some really great people running it. Bovine Sex Club in Toronto. Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver. Absolute Underground & KILLER Magazine are both great.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
I know Grease is GOOD.

The last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange & new situations in our everyday life (covid, lock-down etc.) Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
Yeah it pissed us the fuck off that everyone became nerds & released really lame music about being lame & wimpy.

What are your future plans?
Let me tell you this, the older you do get, the more rules they’re gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin’ man L-I-V-I-N.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
KEEP IT LOUD. KEEP IT FILTHY (DOGS OF METAL). KEEP IT NASTY.
