Interview with SATAN'S SIGH

!!!EVIL DEATH BLACK METAL FROM BRAZIL!!!

We had a conversation with Black Sin And Damnation (Vocals/Guitars). Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about SATAN'S SIGH (Members, Starting Year etc).
In March 2023, I left the Brazilian band Grave Desecrator, but my desire to make primitive music was still alive. So I decided to revive an old idea under the  Satan's Sigh. In September of the same year, in a random conversation with Vitor (Giovanni), We've been friends for a long time, he had just left his old band (Escarnium). Chatting on WhatsApp I told him about my new band Satans Sigh, he liked the idea, despite the distance he live in Paraiba State , in Brazil northeast, Vitor joined us. About Sόrtόr, we met in the Rio de Janeiro scene, but we were not close friend. He is an active drummer in the Rio de Janeiro scene. HE is also the drummer for the band Thrasheira (Thrash speed metal) and the black metal band Praga. I had already talked to him about playing together in some death metal project, so this was the opportunity to put that plan into action. Satan's Sigh came into the world to explore everything from the fastest and bloodiest blastbeats to the most violent and infamous D.beat. We Write about infamous things inspired by real-life horror. I'm from Rio de Janeiro, man, one of the most beautiful and violent cities in the world. the contrasts of everyday life are thing common to me. Here dude, we're just walking sacks of meat and shit!!! Nobody really cares whether you're alive or dead. Gratuitous violence is rubbed in our faces on a all time... Satan's Sigh emerges from this huge latrine. We have no commitment to styles, no labels, fuck the rules and what the market says. We are committed to evil! With the dirty and the profane. The band is a trio in the studio and as a live quartet with the addition of another guitar.
OUR CURRENT LINEUP:
Black Sin and Damnation- Vocals and Guitars
Vitor Giovanni - Bass
Sόrtόr Impuros - Drums
N.Wicked -Guitars (live section).

In 2023 you released your demo ''Demo I''. What was the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
Yes, we released  "Demo I" through our youtube channel. we were very excited with all shits that we've been creating and We really wanted to show it to our close friends and We also were absolutely curiosity about, what would be the metal maniacs reactions. The ''demo I'' consists of two tracks "Satan's Sigh" and "Eternal Evil". We used programmed drums on both tracks, as Sόrtόr had just joined the band at this time and we'd already decided to release it as an online demo. Shortly afterwards we received from Unpure recs. (PL) an offer to release 33 fucking copies of "DEMO I" on cassette format. I don't know if they're still available on their website, but if you're a MANIAC TAPE, YOU MUST GET ONE this the peace of third world shit dude!! ahaha. If you're interested, be quick or be missed it!! hahaha..They putted out 33 the cassettes ONLY!! They forged these tapes in the fires of hell!!! I can't wait to get my hands on it!!! Another thing that helped us , also with the help of Unpure rec.'s ,the ''Demo I'' was added to the youtube channel ''No gleaming light'' with this our sound and name reached more people from the necrounderground than We could,t imagine at that point. We'll always be very grateful for this help!!! I hope one day to meet these guys in person and toast with a huge mug of beer!!!About metal media's feedback, I haven't seen any reviews of this one. If you or anyone who are reading this interview knows anyone, please send it to me. So,this way I have no answer for this question  but, we got killer feedback from our audience!! we are very gland, because this one1s paved our left path to Impaled all of you with upcoming Debut "Impaled Nazareno".

You are going to release your new first studio album ''Impaled Nazareno''. Tell us a few things about this project.
Impaled Nazareno will be released on CD in Brazil through the alliance between 9 labels, Ihells Productions, Blizzard Records, Blasmorforse Distro, Misanthropic Records, Mundo bzzarro Distro,Tormenta Distro,Capa Preta Records, Sezeli.rec.Ditro and Vela preta Prod. ). Will also be released on cd by Vomit Records (Mex) and in tape through the alliance between the labels Murder record (NL), Audience _cuts (BR) and Subterrβneo Maldito records (PT). The album will feature 9 tracks of the most primitive and violent South American metal. however, we are still looking for more underground labels to spread our disease throughout  necrounderground.

Label or DIY and why?
Both. Everything  produced for this record like, cover art, internal art, hours of recording, mix ,master etc, everything was paid by the band and now we are "licensing" for the labels put it out and distribute it. We believe that for underground bands like ours, these days, this is the best way to work. Because working this way we are totally sure that the "Impaled Nazareno'' will arrive at its proper place, as close as possible to our audience, at UNDERGROUND.  We have no interest in our record being sold in large music stores  for the world, but we make a point of doing the underground its home. fuck off posers and their sensitive ears!! This shit was not made for you! This album was made by maniacs for maniacs!!! If the chaos does not run in your veins, stay away from this album!! Because This one's gonna kick your poser ass!!

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
Well, this album was recorded in different places. Vitor is living in the northeast of Brazil, in the state of Paraνba, There're almost a 3-hour flight between  Rio de Janeiro and there. So the recording was done remotely. He recorded the bass in his home studio, I recorded all the guitars and part of the vocals in my home studio, and all the drums and  other part of the vocals were recorded at the HCS studio here in Rio de Janeiro. We had problems with  3 different audio technician . After 3 months of delay, I decided to mix and master it by myself in my home studio. The result is all this shit that you soon will listen it.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
Vinyl. I love tapes as well, but the experience of listening to vinyl is unique.
It's been amazing this return of vinyl(less its high prices). For me, vinyl is a complete masterpiece. the ritual of holding vinyl,Smelling it,putting it on the turntable, listening to it while you appreciate all details on the cover art, to read the lyrics!! Nothing beats that dude! I remember when I was 15,16 years old, I'M still discovering Iron Maiden  and digging through the "Powerslave" vinyl after listening to it countless times!!! Haha. While the record was playing, I tried to find some hidden symbols contained in the cover art or in the booklet. This is an experience I've never had listing to music on CD   players or  any digital platform shit at all! I mean,When you buy a vinyl you're not just buying any object,It isn't just music, The Vinyl will become part of your family, vinyl is analog, that's the magic!!! you're also taking part in the ritual. The act of putting it in the record player and then switching it around and spending some time listening to music! Nowadays, in my opinion, it's almost impossible! Think, how many hours a week do you dedicate just to listening to music? just to listening to music, I beat you'll be in the vast minority. haha... I remember  that in the late 90s, here in Brazil, you could buy it for low price,in fact it's a ridiculous prices..You could buy it for less 1 dollar. Today it is impossible!!! the Vinyl has appreciated a lot and is currently its price is very expensive, main for us Brazilian. I know people who sold their vinyl collections to replace all them on CD format and they've bitterly regretted doing it. Well, about the platforms Digital, for me they are the beginning of the end, mainly for us independent musicians and artists and unfortunately there is no turning back. You pay very little to have 99% of the world's music in the palm of your hands. I won't be a hypocrite because I also use them. For me they are research tools and a way to spend my time when I'm driving or waiting in line at some shitty place like a bank or a supermarket. However, 99% of people don't know that this practicality is the basis of pain and suffering of musicians who are not paid fairly. The account will never close.. So don't be fooled, if you really want to help your favorite artist, musician or band, buy their merchandise whenever you can do it! This is the better way you help keeping the wheel of chaos never stopping!!!

Black Sin and Damnation- Vocals and Guitars

Your music style is Death/Black Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
How I said before, the Evil is our biggest influence!! Metal bands like Ratos de Porγo, Lobotomia, Sepultura (old), Vulcano, Multilator, Sarcofago, Mystifier, Headhunter DC, Possessed, Mortem, Sadistc Intent, Slayer, Death (first 2 albums), Judas, Maiden, Angel Witch, Morgoth, Mercyful, Celtic, Unleash, Morbid Angel, Amebix, Discharge, Voivod, GBH, Terrorizer, Extreme noise terror, Impaled Nazarene...! We are preachers of the dirty, rotten and cursed metal!! Come to our altar of lust and getting drunk on our pure and black South American chaos. We are influenced from punk to black metal, from grindcore to doom... for us, they are different sources of evil. Social, physical, psychological, spiritual, all these sources of evil hallucinate us and transport us to a place within our existence where the cycle closes and this energy transforms into inspiration that excites us until we ejaculate our music to the world. That's how I see art. Therefore, style is just a brand put on you, then they throw you on a shelf like a product... hahaha NO!!! I didn't create Satan's Sigh for that. This is not the way I hear and see music. We are not reinvente of the  wheels, but we won't be cheap copies of anyone at all. I refuse to create sterial music just to fill these shelves. Resume, If you are a dirty, violent and primitive metal maniac like us and you like music forged in Hatred, you have a great chance of being caught by the poisonous uncross serpent!!! ahahaha.

Vitor Giovanni - Bass

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
Every day we make choices. It is impossible to do everything we want at the same time. But before you make choices, you need to know something very important. first all you gotta calibrate two very important things in your life: your effort and your goal. If your goal is just to play on the weekends together your friends, playing in local clubs or at friends parties ,just for fun ok... you don't need to effort very much to do that. Now, if you really want to be in a serious band committed to its art, which recording albums, with long tours sometimes outside of its country, you will really need to make a much greater effort and you'll pay biggest price for that. What you call sacrifice, I call it price, this is the second phase of the game, haha. Are you willing to spend most of your life, inside a vehicle with smelly and dirty men, far from your family and friends??? In 2009 my old band (Grave Desecrator) was invited to participate in a festival called LIVE EVIL, which happyed at the famous Underwood venue in London on October 23rd and 24th, 2010. The headliners of this festival were Angel Witch and the infernal Vulcano!! The other bands in the cast were selected through Fenriz's (Darkthone) myspace page, where Fenriz presented a band that he was listening to a lot and wanted to share with his audience, and Grave Desecrator was one of them. At that time I worked as a Computer technician in a hospital and in December 2023 I asked to take vacation in October 2024, This way we could do a mini tour on Europe,Two months to go the trip, the where I use to work, told me that I would not take my vacation during that period. That Exactly moment I had to make a choice. My son was 3 years old and a bunch of married problem.. But the  music has always been my passion. I would never have that chance again and without thinking twice, I left work and went on a mini tour on Europe. Nowadays my son is  17 years old and I am here answering your interview. So,  Be careful with your choices and know all the consequences of that action are. The street can be your home, your hell, your wife, your lover...You decide it. there is a price and it will be charged!!

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
My ideal performance ever was in 2012 at small club in Oslo. It was wild concert, there were around 100 metal maniac there. I felt like if I come back straight to  80's!! This show was one of the most bloody that I've played ever !! I really like to play in small clubs, I don't know if you have the same felling, but for me shows at small clubs rules!!

Sόrtόr Impuros - Drums

What attributes do you think that a new Death Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
I'm not here to shit rules, each person is free to treat their life and art as they wish. In my opinion there are no secrets. Being passionate is the only thing that will make you move forward playing metal!! Especially death metal!! So follow your feeling... be crazy and bold!! Run away from everything that is plastic... pastured, infertile... Metal is organic made by blood, sweat and fire!! All it takes is a bunch of bums with blood in their eyes and evil on their fingers!! And boommm!! Hahahah The world doesn't need a new Slayer, Iron, Metallica, Death, Possessed!!!! History is made of the present. THINK about it!

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Death Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
It's a complicated answer, but let's go! In my opinion, they don't help enough. Even bands that pay for the algorithm to deliver their music to as many people as possible, the help is insignificant. How many bands do you know that have exploded just by piling their music on digital platforms? I don't know anyone. So, If you want to promote your band to get shows, Make contacts, try to get a label that really like of your songs and help you to spread you sound Or you can try to release your record independently . In both situations, your band will be able to grow within the underground and release even more work. There's no magic!! Get moving and work hard. Put your music on digital platforms and forget about it. Bandcamp is a cool platform for you to promote your songs.  The band's life  also has its ups and downs, keep working with your feet on the ground, follow your feeling, search for quality and forget about quantity and Fuck it!!!

Do you see any differences between the Brazilian Metal Market & the EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
I don't see any differences between headbangers from Brazil and headbangers from any part  of the world. METAL is a disease that unites us. The Brazilian scene, in terms of quality and creativity, is currently amazing!! In my opinion, Brazil is living its best moment in artistic terms. There are excellent bands from the north to the south of Brazil. If you want to listen a dirty and  primitive metal, forged by hate and blood, Dude South America will be your Disneyland hahaha. I've been listening to more bands from South America these days than from any other part of the world. Believe me, this is the breeding ground of misfortune, man!!... Our blood exudes sludge!! ON the other hand Poverty, inequality, greed for money and power splashe over our Brazilian metal scene. Last year I toured by car through the southeast, center-west, north and northeast of Brazil. there were 30 shows in 40 days, over 13 thousands kilometers traveled. I went as a bass/vocal sub for the SP death metal band “Podridγo”. After 3 tours over Europe, I can say for sure that the difference between other markets and Brazil is the country's infrastructure. Sometimes it's cheaper to travel to Europe than to travel from Rio Grande do Sul, the extreme south of Brazil, to Roraima, the extreme north of Brazil. It's almost 8 fucking hours on a plane to get there, man!! In Europe it's easy to rent a van, backline, you pay around 200 euros/day. Here in Brazil this DOESN'T EXIST. The daily rate for the same equipment + van + driver would be at least 500 euros/day. For underground bands this is impossible. A country with continental dimensions like Brazil, which has a ridiculously small rail network, makes freight extremely expensive and time-consuming by land. It has already improved a little but we are miles away from this reality Lived in Europe. So we live in isolated bubbles into the same country.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Rio De Janeiro (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
Rio de Janeiro has a small underground scene but with a great tradition of producing damned bands. Our sacred temple is called Garage, it opened in the early 90's and around 2008 it closed its activities. A year ago it retuned but under the new name Garage Grind House!! This club is located very closer from Rio de Janeiro downtown. 200 meters from club is located the largest open-air nightclub in Brazil!! The poetic Vila Mimosa!! The smell one is something unique. I've been to many dirty, rotten places... but nothing likes our profane sexual paradise. Its smell is a mix of alcohol, cocaine, vomit, slurry and cum!! Hahaha. From this latrine came Grave Desercator, Apokalyptic Raids, Whipistrike, Thrasheira, Praga, Farscape, Pos-sismo,Pombajira, Dor profana, Guerra Nuclear, Atomic roar, Poeticus Severus among others.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
I have no an in-depth knowledge of the Hellenic metal scene, but I know about all new element the Hellenic black metal bands added to style. In the mid-90s, bands like Rotting Christ and Varathron came up they brought with them a new sound, a new way to do Black Metal. More rhythmic, added atmospheric keyboards. In the mid-90s, the Hellenic scene showed the world a new way of making Black Metal!!

In the last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange, and new situations in our everyday lives (covid, lockdown, etc.). Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
Anyway, everyone fucked up. I had a Europe tour scheduled for April 2020. We tried until the last moment not to cancel it, but it was impossible. Then the lockdown came and I stayed for 24 months prisoner of my ower home.We stayed indoors for a long time,But I knew how to take advantage of this free time. I could improved my English, As guitarist, I improved my playing and mainly I started to study about audio, home studios, recording, etc. The post office was one of the few services that didn't stop completely during the pandemic, so I was able to buy an audio interface online and I started recording myself and also composing through the computer. Around 2021 I started recording demos, in fact I started doing the pre-production of Grave Desecrator's last album. Due to the pandemic and because I was living far from the GD vocalist's house, I often used to record all vocals of the demo, especially on  my compositions. During the pandemic, I was invited ,by my brother Alex Rocha (Poisonous), to join me to Poisonous band(BRA), initially as guitarist and after as vocalist as well.I always sent these demos to Alex and he always got insane  with my vocals!! A few months later, we released ''Doomed Pillars''. I think it's still available on tape through the Italian label Unholy Domain.I told this whole story to show you that if there had been no pandemic, ''Impaled Nazareno'' would certainly sound different than it does today. This experience was very important to help me to be able to produce it. The pandemic was a horrible time for humanity, but it was beneficial for me and fundamental to get the Satan's Sigh sound.

What are your future plans?
Now it’s time to work hard to spread the name Satan’s Sigh through the sewers of the underworld. Working hard to promote Impaled Nazareno. We will soon bring more information about the release (release date, labels, etc.) through our social media or labels partners websites, I would say we are having a great support from Murder Records (Danihell), who has helped us a lot in promoting us and Record!!! So now it’s time to work...work and work...666.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
I would like to thank Stavros for the opportunity to talk a little more about Satan's Sigh. It was a pleasure to answer his questions, which, by the way, were very good . I hope your infernal readers enjoy my answers and see you at any hole out there!! Once again, damn Filthy Dogs Of Metal readers!!! We have just released on our YouTube channel the track ''Impaled Nazareno'', which will be part of our debut album ''Impaled Nazareno''. If you want more information, get off your ass and go look for it!! hahaha  The darkness makes us equal. Stay sick!!!
