Interview with TINY

!!!POWERFUL HEAVY ROCK 'N ROLL FROM TEXAS, USA!!!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about TINY (Members, Starting Year etc).
BRINE- We called ourselves TINY because we wanted to have the biggest sound. Biggest amps. We wanted to be big.

MIKEY- We started in the beginning of 2020. Covid time. Eric and I had been in bands in the past and needed something to do to keep us out of, I don’t know. Trouble? I was really influenced by mountain so wanted to have a huge wall of sound.

ERIC- After a minute of working on songs together our friend Fails joined on drums. We found Brine soon after to front the band. Ian later took over on drums and that was the lineup for the first Album and up until this last year when Marky took over on drums.

You have recently released your album ''Sacrifice at Hand''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
BRINE- A lot of people have been anticipating the release. It took us a while to get it out but we’re stoked on the response its gotten so far. As far as press goes, it’s really hard to get much press evaluation but were getting it from y’all right now, so I guess its working!

Label or DIY and why?
ERIC- We shopped it around to a few labels. We had one offer that we almost went through with but the deal stunk so we backed out. Ultimately it just seemed like the best decision was to release it on our own.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
ERIC- We opened up for Anvil a while back. Ill spare the details but the night ended with Robb Reiner getting his ass kicked by our drummer. That was funny.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
BRINE- VINYL! It’s just superior, It sounds better and looks better. It comes with an insert and it feels great to just hold in your hands.

Your music style is powerful Hard 'n' Heavy Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
ERIC- We all come from a wide range of different influences but as far as TINY goes its predominantly NWOBHM bands. Diamond Head, Tank, Iron Maiden etc. As well as bands like Budgie, Kiss, Mountain… Anything HEAVY!

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
BRINE- That’s a great question because that’s why we titled the album as such. It is a line from “Bedouin” but it was really about everything we went through to get the album out. With no label support, we had to raise the funds ourselves. Covid was half the lifespan of the band. That was tough. Two members were homeless. We couldn’t go anywhere. We were broke. Bored. All we could do was write. The sacrifices got this record in our hands.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
ERIC- Every show is a different beast. MÖWERFEST in Pittsburgh last year was a high point. As far as Ideal? A full house, beers flowing, heads banging.

What attributes do you think that a new Hard 'n' Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
ERIC- Authenticity. Do what you love and do it for the right reasons. I think people are drawn to that. We write the songs we wanna hear. Do the same.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Hard 'n' Heavy Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
BRINE- Absolutely. Digital platforms are super beneficial for promotion and getting it out there. The ability to reach new fans worldwide is unprecedented. It’s a great push to getting the physical release out and hopefully heard.

Do you see any differences between the US Metal Market & the EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
ERIC- Both markets seem to be thriving. It’s great to see this worldwide Metal resurgence. So many great new bands coming out from all over. The European festival circuit is insane. Even here in Texas were lucky to have Hells Heroes Fest in our own backyard. But from what we hear Ya’ll take better care of your bands.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Austin, Texas (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
BRINE- Were actually losing our home base. The best Metal/Punk Venue in Austin The Lost Well is closing down at the end of October. The scene has taken a big hit due to development and gentrification. We’re hoping things will work itself out. We’re watching a new scene build through bands like us, Mean Mistreater, and our brothers in Leather Church.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
ERIC- Unfortunately not really. Throw some bands at us!

In the last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange, and new situations in our everyday lives (covid, lockdown, etc.). Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
MIKEY- Covid was rough for everybody. Fortunately it was the catalyst for starting TINY. Silver linings!

What are your future plans?
BRINE- Gonna Keep pushing the New Record and hopefully land some label support for next one. We plan on releasing our next single by the end of the year and hit the road next spring.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
BRINE- No, THANK YOU! We really appreciate the exposure coming from you guys all the way from Greece. Everything y’all do for the worldwide metal community is awesome. For the readers… If you guys like what you hear, buy a record and support the band so we can keep this van running. LONG LIVE HEAVY ROCK N ROLL!
