Interview with TORTURED SACRAMENT

!!!DEATH METAL FROM FRANCE!!!

We had a conversation with Josef. Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Tell us a few things about TORTURED SACRAMENT (Members, Starting Year etc).
Tortured Sacrament is a Death Metal/Hardcore band from Montpellier (South of France). We formed in 2023 with this line up : Lou (vocals), Timo (guitar), Thibaut (drums) & Josef (bass). We’re influenced by cavernous OSDM and Hardcore as well.

You have recently released your demo. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
We had really great feedback ! Mostly from the Hardcore scene because that’s the scene we’re from ! Didn’t have much review from the press but all the ones we saw we’re positive so we’re really happy about it !

Label or DIY and why?
DIY label ahah ! We’re with Bustin Heads Records but that’s our own label, all the members of the band are part of it !

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
We shat ourselves during the recording of “Grimoire Necris”.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
Tape and Vinyl ! But we only do tape right now because more cheap and easier to do.

Your music style is Death Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
In term of Death Metal, we’re influenced as well by cavernous OSDM like Insatanity, Baphomet, Sedimentume, Disma, Entombed and Krypts than by Death Metal Hardcore like Dying Fetus, Torture Rack, Tomb Sentinel, Deaden (basically all Maggot Stomp and 20 Bucks Spin) or simply by Hardcore or Powerviolence bands like Killing Pace, Nails, Simulakra etc…

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
We kinda organize our life around music but it never reached the point we’re we have to sacrifice something. Our drummer moved from Grenoble to Montpellier to be more invested in the band. But to succeed I think the best way is to do music with people who have the same envies about what the band should be and that are motivated.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
Our first live show was kind of what we were hopping and we’re really glad about it ! Friends in the crowd, hard moshers etc… The ideal performance is when the crowd is really receptive to your sound and react in an appropriate way to the music (violence).

What attributes do you think that a new Death Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
We think that having a raw sound inspired by the OSDM production is a great thing (and we want to hear more of those things !) Also it’s always great to hear a band where you can recognize all the influences as they are well mixed !

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Death Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
Internet is inevitable now, it’s both a good and a bad thing. It really easier to find an audience but it’s true that digging bands is not as rewarding as before (we guess, because we all grew up with internet lol).

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in France (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
The Hardcore scene is really a huge thing right now in France and it’s growing everyday ! Especially the Lyon, Lille and Paris scenes ! There’s a lot of good bands like Eurydice, Iron Deficiency, Maran, Days of Revelation, Broken Ankles, Loyal2None, Worst Doubt, Corruption Pact, Cold Decay, Soul Hater, Take it in Blood, Headbussa etc… We also have a good scene in the south that we try to grow even if it’s sometime difficult, with bands like No Self, Citrus, Dig in Wretch, Kibosh etc… In term of Metal, we have a great underground scene with band like Profanation, Mortuaire, Gravekvlt, Fange, Cavalerie… There’s a lot of good fanzine (Echoes of Death, Women of the Gig, No Comply) and a lot of event, but mostly in the north, in the south we really have a lack of venue which is our biggest weakness to grow a scene…

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
We’re friends with the Greek Hardcore band Malignant, but beside that I admit that we don’t know much of it (beside maybe Septicflesh and Rotting Christ ahah).

The last 4 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange & new situations in our everyday life (covid, lock-down etc.) Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
In France covid was really a tough time for extreme music but the lack of show motivated people to do something and we grew an amazing scene of covid !

What are your future plans?
We want to play a lot of shows while working on an EP !

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thanks to Filthy Dogs for letting us do this interview ! S/O to all the people who support us and made this project possible !
